Default Cell Phones & The Bahamas

I'm heading down at the end of the month and I was wondering, having Verizon as a carrier, what kind of service I might be able to expect down there, if any... Thanks!

We just returned from there. No service (Verizon and Nextel) anywhere close to the Abacos but were surprised to get Verizon service (roaming) in the Berry Islands. Sort of strange to be there in the middle of nowhere and see cell towers on the main island.

Whatever you do don't use the pretty blue phones that they have in some marinas that have a big sign that says "call home with credit card". This suckered me into three calls 1 minute a piece. Got the bill later and it was $ 42 each.

Our phones work there (Cingular), but it does not sound like it will help you unless you switch carriers... Sorry... Just a FYI..
