Post i need a boat transported from detroit.

this might be premature but the broker in michigan is telling me i have to pay michigan sales tax unless i have the boat transported out of state SO heres the deal.

i need someone to pick it up in detroit and haul it to the nearest state line or 2 blocks from the broker whatever comes first

the broker is going to want a bill of laiding (SP) so i dont think the hauler can be just anyone with a pickup.

can someone in the detroit area stear me to a transport company that will work with me on this?

please and thankyou!

Unhappy Will you not have to pay in the state you register the boat anyway?

You usually pay when you register the boat or prove that you
paied in the prior state. You need a BOS or a purchase agreement, some states require notarized docs. Don't get
yourself into trouble on this, which state has the lowest sales
tax?

dangerkitty2 , im going to look into that further but i bought my last boat in oklahoma and didnt pay them sales tax.

i registered the boat with the coast guard and only had to pay missouri 650.00 for what they call in-leu-of-sales-tax since its a documented boat.

hopefully , i can do the same thing this time around.

Have the dealer deliver to your home or marina. That's what I've done in the past.
And tell the salesman that's the only way you'll buy and not to charge you for it.
I had one shipped from FL and it worked fine.
It's not being titled in MI so what's the problem?

eMotiondriver , the broker has me by the short hairs. they have my deposit and a signed purchase agreement.
it doesnt really matter tho cuz i definately want the boat and will pay the tax if i have to.

its to late to negotiate delivery. its my own fault.
should have looked into the sales tax situation better before i did the deal.

Any one can make I bill of lading it just states that the cargo is going from Point A to B.
It leaves the dealer out of the tax issue and put's in your hands.

No I am not!!! I just thought I'd offer the help since I live so close to the border and make the trip a couple times a month.
It sounds like a big pain in the A#@#. Thats too bad should be simple and they make you jump through hoops! Good luck!
