House vs Boat, what cost more??

I thought i was the only one who spent $140k on my boat and $125k on my house...What do you pay more for?? I am still traveling and found out today that a young(26) year old guy that works for us has a 1998 35' Fountain, and live in a nice Double-wide....Has a super nice wife to boot too:D :p

What did you all pay more for?? I think I know the responses I will get.... :D ;)

THEJOKER 02-13-2003 10:25 PM

all screwed up.............

I am totally whacked out of my mind - I live in a 100 grand condo -1 bedroom and the Top Gun is 350 grand. Not counting a 84 Mastercraft - 87 Barefoot Nautique - 2001 28 Joker - and a few Sea Doos - get your priorities straight - BH

Tonto 02-14-2003 01:55 AM

House, buck and a quarter
2 APACHE's
1 SeaRay
1 Bassboat
About five times the value of the house.

timucin 02-14-2003 02:54 AM

LOL!
that's what powerboating is about!

Audiofn 02-14-2003 03:56 AM

Hell right now I am living home with my parents :D:D

GregP 02-14-2003 07:15 AM

Heck, just the dock+rip-rap+ etaining wall cost more than the boat. Don't even want to think about the house, new kitchen, ....

Shane 02-14-2003 07:38 AM

I guess my priorities are WAY THE F%$# Off!

Primary Residence $250,000
Lake House $1,600,000
Formula $60,000
24 Skater $40,000
Chevy 1/2 Ton Silverado $32,000
Yamaha Waverunner 1400 4-Stroke $8,000
2 Yamaha Snowmobiles $15,000

No debt except on primary residence (for tax write offs)...

PRICELESS!:)

GO4BROKE 02-14-2003 08:02 AM

$250K+ for boat, dually to pull boat, camp on Port Bay (Lake Ontario) to keep the boat on the water.
$55K for Double wide with barn for working on boats and a garage I built to store the boat inside!

Shane, $1.6M for the house on the lake, you need to spend at least $3.2M on a boat! If you want help shopping, I'll be happy to help!!!! :D

RUSSSR1 02-14-2003 08:13 AM

Keep it comming guys I can print this out and use it as leverage on the wife :D :D

THRILLSEEKER 02-14-2003 08:17 AM

I am glad that I am not the only one that thinks this way. Well I dont own a home yet, I live w/my parents and they are not even here 6 mos. out of the year. Put it this way I aint saving for a house, but for a bigger boat;)
I spend more time on the boat in the summer than I do at home, and In the winter my folks are gone and are happy just to have someone watch their house:cool:
What would you do???:D

Most of the lake house's value is from EXTREME APPRECIATION! Total investment in the house is about $400,000 to $500,000 or so. The remainder has been all through appreciation. The rate that homes on Lake George have climbed and are still climbing is absolutely MIND NUMBING! I am fortunate enough to have been the recipient of the house as it was built for me by my parents. :)

After Burner 02-14-2003 08:21 AM

Priorities change with the seasons...

Winter its a house the rest of the year it a boat!

Present residence paid for 16x80 cost $32,000
Truck 2001 cost $48,000
car 2002 Vette cost $49,000
Boat 30 scarab over $50,000 invested

In the market for a New house or Top Gun which ever comes first!

Tim G. 02-14-2003 08:57 AM

House??

No house here..
I rent the apartment/condo.
I have the boat, but the bank owns more of it than I do...
Got the nice crew dually.
Have a bunch of tools, etc. in the garage..

You think you own your house??? You pay more in taxes than I pay in rent! Shane does for sure. How much tax on a 1.6M house??? Damn.

EvilTwin 02-14-2003 08:58 AM

ChrisK,

A little off the subject, (sorry) but you used to live in NY and were part of the Bud light Ski team at Jumpin Jacks right? I see you still have a ski boat. Do you still do alot of skiing and are you with any teams down there. I must have met you with the Bud light team here in NY. I was friends with the Hennels and Gene and his son.

FunHome 02-14-2003 09:01 AM

$110,00 Duplex (We live in half, rent out the other)
$26,000 wife's car
$10,000 my truck's! That's two for a total of $10,000!!!
$45,000 Boat - That own half of!!
$35,000 Building to put boat in that I own half of!!
$10,000 Other Boat project's like pontoon's, flat bottom, 22ft velocity, 69 Cady Convt., couple of Hunting Suburban's, 1937 International flat bed, etc.........

Looking for another duplex!!

ChrisK 02-14-2003 09:05 AM

The hennels where my next door neighbors... If you have EVER been to their house then you know where I lived. On mary lane in rotterdam. As for the skiing down here... We thought the same thing.. well it is not the case... There is only like 2 teams that we have found. One in Tampa, one in Orlando... and the orlando team sucks compared to my old one. We have not skiied in a few years, that is why I am selling the mastercraft. I also know Gene, and gino... My borother works for gene down here. My mother and brother live over on the west coast right near gene.

seanclong 02-14-2003 09:23 AM

House cost WAY more than my boat. 'Course my boat was only $40K...:o

I'm not allowed to have my priorities outta whack. I'm married with children. :p :D

Shane 02-14-2003 09:24 AM

For the betterment of the this thread I will erase all of my posts except for the original. Will you do the same ET? May I call you at work now so we may finally put this to bed? I still have your number.

Shane,

You're obviously a man of integrity. How could anyone refuse. :)

TomR 02-14-2003 09:47 AM

The way I see it, the question should be what is your boat worth compared to what your House is worth?;)

Thanks Sean. I appreciate the thought.:)

IntolerantOne 02-14-2003 11:08 AM

For you guys with boats more expensive than residence, how long till you think they will pass each other going in opposite directions ?

PS. House $200K
Boat $20K

I envy you guys living in areas where you can find a hut for under $200K !

THRILLSEEKER 02-14-2003 11:48 AM

TomR, Are you speaking in terms of sentimental value or dollar value?:p

rainmn 02-14-2003 11:48 AM

Me too. My kitchen remodel this year cost more than my boat - and I did all the damn work.

GLH 02-14-2003 12:09 PM
