Thinking of buying an H1 Hummer, any advise??
Hey guys, thinking of selling my Excursion and getting a used H1 Hummer Wagon. Can anyone tell me their views/experience on them, which year is better than others, gas or desiel, common problems etc. I will probably get a mid 90's with low to mid miles.
Also, do you know if GM does the service work on them now, since the new H2 arrived?
I imagine when you need something fixed it is very costly!
Any input would be great!
Thanks

My next door neighbor is a dealer, giving the line up,has 11 2000 and 2001's left, selling at $15000-$20000 below cost, just to dump them. Before you buy, drive one for a day or two to see if you want one.

If you want a new H1 at an absolute bargain call Bill Long at John Crump Automotive.205-221-3939. He's my next door neighbor and a good friend. And if dumps them he will buy a new boat from me . He also has taken several boats on trade for Hummers.I think that he just wants the H1's to go away at some price.

Yeah, drive one for a weekend. I'm guessing you'll hate it unless you are out to cruise for chicks (for some reason they love those things).
Slow, noisy, cumbersome. They are a crappy street car.
They are, however, one fine offroader.
You can buy an early model with 60k on the miles for around $25k these days. At that price they start being cool. At over $60k they suck. And at $114k they are a joke.
They are stout. Won't tow.
H2 is a far better all around machine (and the girls like it, too since they are stupid and son't know the difference).

I can tell you basically anything that you want to know. My first was a '93 Diesel Hard Top, then a '94 Diesel wagon and now a '97 TD wagon. Do not get anything under a mid yr. '97 or as they call it, a 97.5. Significant improvements were made. Mine have never been the primary driver, however, I have many friends that do. Mine is set up for heavy offroad usage, 38 PJ Dirt Grips, 2in. lift, exhaust, snorkel, d-ring brush guard, etc... If it is serviced regularly, you shouldn't have a proble. Take it to someone who knows the vehicle. Most of the parts are not Hummer specific so w/ a good cross-reference # for parts you'll be OK. I've never had a problem towing a 14 ft. enclosed motorcycle trailer or my 30 Cobra. Let me know, if I can help out.

Oh, BTW, I forgot to mention that I just bought a left over '02 PSD Excursion, which is my daily driver. A totally different animal than the Hummer (see, us original guys refuse to call it a H1).
