Teen pop band O-Town putting a Donzi in offshore powerboat racing
MIAMI BEACH — More teen pop music performers are becoming involved in offshore powerboat racing.
Boy band O-Town announced an agreement Friday with Donzi Marine to have the band's name on a 38-foot Donzi Factory II class boat for the 2003 American Power Boat Association offshore season.
The boat, dubbed O-Town Audacity Racing will be piloted by Joey Skrocki of Detroit and Phil Semel of Key Largo, Fla.
Nick Carter, an original member of the Backstreet Boys, ventured into the sport in 2002 and won both a national and world championship in the Super Vee class. He recently sold his boat, but is negotiating with Donzi to become involved with a Factory II class boat in 2003.
"We can't wait for the season to start so that we can" beat Nick Carter, said Trevor Penick, 23, one of five O-Town members during a news briefing at the Miami International Boat Show.
