MPH vs KNOT

I've seen in Chapmans that a knot is 1.15 mph.

Many people, and articles have different figures, What is the true one?

Anyone Know?????

Isn't the miles per hour equal to knots times 1.15? As if you were going 10 knots per hour you would be going 11.5 miles per hour?

1.151 is what I have always thought it to be

A nautical mile is a distance on the earth's surface of 6,080 feet, which is equal to one minute of latitude at the earth's equator. Since there are 360 degrees around the earth, and each degree equals 60 minutes, the distance around the earth, at the equator or any other great circle, is 21,600 nautical miles.

Hence the math: 6080/5280=1.15151515.............

But that is the figure I always used also, which makes me happy as chit...

I ran my boat at the end of the season last year and never saw any numbers over 100 I could not break that number, then my wife looked and asked whats a KN is what I think it read, Iwas happy to find out the defualt was reset and went back to Knots.

I've been kicking myself in the ass for selling the 300 Promax's till now:D :D :D
