Our car made the Busch race

After several attempts last year and several bad crashes our car finally made a race. Qualified 21st at Rockingham. Look for the #13 Dodge, Creech Motor Sports/WESCO Racing car driven by Carl Long. We made it to the starting grid and hope to get around the track at least a few times before crashing!!!!!
Explained to car owner that sponsorship is only good when the car's on the track.

HyperBaja 02-21-2003 09:30 PM

Congrats, and good luck to you with keeping away from those walls!!

02-21-2003 09:51 PM

Congratts

I watched Carl try to qualify for a few races last year, I hope he does good tomorow.

It is tough to compete against the higher funded teems, and every lap he will get better.

cheapthrills 02-22-2003 08:23 AM

Good Luck! We'll be watching.

Playn 02-22-2003 09:12 AM

TulsaLarry 02-22-2003 07:00 PM

Good luck on Monday. I hope the extra couple of days will work to your advantage.

ThirdBird 02-22-2003 07:01 PM

Hey Mate, thats cool!! But what do mean by "your car". I take it you're not the owner, so you must be a sponsor, right? What is the sponsorship? Your business? Boat stuff? Fill me in so I can pay attention to your boy.

Steve 1 02-22-2003 08:52 PM

Congratulations and best of luck race day

Allan4 02-22-2003 08:54 PM

Allright!!!!!!!!!!

That's a great feeling, hope that all goes well. Race was rained out and rescheduled for Mon afternoon for all of you who do not know. The Rock is a drivers track, pretty hard on equipment.....Good Luck, enjoy!!

H2Xmark 02-22-2003 10:01 PM

Elite Marine 02-22-2003 10:43 PM

Good luck to you and your driver. Seems like you've reached a lofty goal making the race.....Congrats!!!

iveyhoe 02-23-2003 06:38 AM

I pulling for Carl. He's from Roxboro, NC. (26 miles from me.)

gmhdfan 02-23-2003 07:21 AM

Good Luck. Are you doing your own motor program or are you leasing? Sponsorship is good when your on the track, but better when the camera is on you. So if you do crash make it a good one. :) Either way the body man will be busy next week. Stay out for a caution if you make it close to the end for better track postion. Best of Luck to your team. You guys should be proud!!

Pete:)

Dueclaws 02-23-2003 10:11 AM

Congrats. Will you be in Texas? I'll see your car there, since I work at TMS. We've sold out of Winston Cup Tickets and Busch is going fast. Here's an alternate place to watch the races at TMS:

Hey....a TMS person....I bet we have a mutual friend....Does the name Eddie Gossage...I kknow I spelled it incorrectly...ok?
I used to handle track announcing at his place 19 years ago...Bristol Motor speedway...Eddie was here in the early 80's.
Tell him a old tri-Cities friend say's hi...Bet you know another Bristol, Tennessee guy....try Mike Helton...he used to be my house insurance man....Small world.

Dueclaws 02-23-2003 01:07 PM

Yep,I report directly to Eddie and of course we who run with NASCAR all know Mr. Helton.
Small world for sure!
I'll tell Eddie that you said hi.

John

We are primary sponsor of car, WESCO Distribution, along with our largest supplier ABB Power Products, they have the trunk deck we have quarter panels. The owner is a local guy who we hooked up with through a mutual friend. He owns Creech Motorsports and is a chassis and sheet metal fabricator so crashes are repaired in house. Good thing since 2 out of 3 attempts ended that way last season.
I never was very involved with Nascar until last season and now have a real appreciation for what goes into this level of racing.
So no I don't own it but helped pay for a good part of it.
Engines are leased as well as shocks. Different set used for each track. Junie Dunleavey is the Mentor for the team. Petty Enterprise has also given assistance hence the Dodge.

Allan4 02-23-2003 06:40 PM

Sounds excellent 229.

Enjoy the experience, NASCAR racing at any level is a very impressive business. The behind the scenes is phenominal. Glad you are experincing this first hand. Good luck, the Busch series is just as competitive as the Cup series, so just making the field is a major accomplishment. Carl Long has run a few Cup and Busch races on a shoe string budget, hard to run up front without big $$. Junie Duleavey has been around for years and has seen it all, and of course the Petty crowd....speaks for itself, I am just waiting for them to hire a stud driver and run up front again on a weekly basis. Are you leasing EEE Motors (Ernie Elliott Engines)??Have a blast and good luck. Keep us posted!!!!

Rambunctious 02-23-2003 08:09 PM

my cousin Tim steele runs ARCA - won three championships. those cars are just under the bush and winston cars. same engines and almost identical specs for cars. he ran ernie's engines for years. they bought two of Bill Elliots winston cars from last year and Sterling MArlin's winning Brickyard car for their super speedway entrants in ARCA this year.

racing is 10x more interesting when you know someone, and when you can see the team effort in the pits, at practice, and during qualifying.

good luck

Mate 229 02-23-2003 09:07 PM

It's exciting even when not making the cut but when you bring in 35-40 customers to watch the race it's a big dissapointment. This race we didn't bring any so we made it of course.
Wish I had more customers interested in offshore racing, but being in the south Nascar is king and the customers ultimately pay the bills so it's cars for now. Get a lot of milage with our customers from this. Had Dale Jr. next to us in the Richmond race, fun rubbin elbows with the big boys. Both he and his crew were nice guys, whole different level though. He ran 1 lap to qualify and shut it off, got the pole and set new track record, awesome team.

R Addiction 02-23-2003 09:41 PM

Good Luck!!!:)

02-24-2003 12:43 PM

he finnished 4 laps down in 28th place. He did a good job, stayed out of trouble and the car was in one peice.

Darrell Waltrip gave him a compliment and said he did a good job.

Now he got a little experience, I bet he will do better next time.

Jolley 02-24-2003 05:51 PM

28 19 #113 Carl Long Dodge TBA 79/0 193 Running

From the NASCAR PAGE ' 28 19 #113 Carl Long Dodge TBA 79/0 193 Running ' , Great Job, especially the 'running' part what with all the 'paybacks'(yellows) and such!!!!!!!!!!!. I'm good friends of the Keselowski Racing family. Former ARCA Champian (all time money winner) and nowadays they own a Cup Truck Team, they bailed from Dodge to Ford, oh well we tried... Rambunctious your cousin is a great talent, I've seen him race many times, sorry they have been struggling a little lately. Keep up the good job all you guys!!!!!!, regards, Bill Jolley

snglestack 02-24-2003 06:19 PM

the car ran good considering all the bush wackers in the race good luck the rest of 2003

Mate 229 02-24-2003 08:05 PM

Well first race and we finished 28th but still completed the whole race. Carl did give the 16 car a little nudge and got some TV time from it. Too bad no one was at the track to watch today, it was empty. Changed the number from 22 to 13 for this race guess it's lucky 13 from now on.

Allan4 02-24-2003 08:52 PM

229, I have a suggestion, may want to look into some different color schemes for your car. It is not a good "tv" car. By that I mean it is very hard to read the sponsorship name on the car at a glance.....as compared to other's in that race for example....Harvick-Payday, Riggs-Nesquick, Compton-Kingsford, Hamilton JR-Dr. Pepper......etc....these cars jump out at you more ON TV. Better brand recognition. Not so much the stands, but on TV. My .02

Rambunctious, your cousin has been very good, pretty cool that you are related. He and Frank Kimmel have been ARCA studs. Lots of good drivers make their way thru ARCA on the way up.

229, good luck down the road, keep us posted.
