Darren, I haven't seen Alan since the mid 90's.
Phil, you know who Benny is: I'm sure he'll be on your "History" DVD! I'm not sure if he's allowed to have a DVD player, however. You know, the Feds have some pretty strict rules. |
Count me in too, dvd please...

Re: History of Offshore-Video Question
Originally posted by T2x Fellow OSO members: My son Darren and Phil Lewis of NNRT had a lengthy meeting today about the possibility of offering a 5 tape series on the History of Offshore Racing. The source would be NNRT's 237 race library spanning from 1977 to 1997. The series would cover among other things: 1. Most of the top personalities in the sport including interviews with such notables as Don Aronow, Al Copeland, Bob Kaiser, Bobby Moore, the young Joey Imprescia, Steve Curtis and JT, Harold "Smitty" Smith, Billy Sirois, Ben Kramer, Mark and Chris Lavin, Fabio Buzzi, Bob Idoni, Peter Hledin, Bobby Saccenti, Howard Arneson and literally hundreds more 2. In depth reviews of the technical advancements in hull and hardware development over the key 20 years in performance boat history. 3. The best and closest racing duels in some of the wildest water imaginable. 4. An "in perspective" narration.....by an "obsolete" announcer. 5. Additional access to NNRT's album of over 500 aerial still photographs of some of the most famous hulls and teams in the annals of the sport. Suggested price for each tape in the series will be approximately $69.95.. What do y'all think?........You can make this happen......or ......give the idea a decent burial. Thanks in advance for your responses pro or con. T2x |
YES....YES...YES If I wasn't in a medical field I'd be a history teacher. If I wasn't a performance boater I don't know what the hell I'd do with my time and energy for play. DVD, watch it on TV / watch it on computer...last forever, an excellent investment. Got to have as much of the original sound (engines) and voice as possible for the "historical" feel. The thought of watching all that classic footage...and the boats...and the personalities...SIGN ME UP !

FINALLY!!! Count me in....

This set will be very cool. The early years of NNRT and the obsolete Rich Luhrs are some of the best offshore racing footage ever filmed. It was from an era that I fondly remember as, “Build a Boat, Install huge motors, Race it, break it, build a new one.” You were supposed to “Drive it like you stole it”, The “V” bottoms were wave crushers, and the Cat guys seemed to have a hard time telling a 3 foot wave from a 6 footer. Just watch Bobby Sheer or Willy Diaz. If I am right, Phil Lewis started filming in 1979 or so, and the suave debonair Rich Luhrs started hanging out of a helicopter door in 1982. Some of Rich Luhrs comments alone are worth the price of the collectors set. Darren will deliver a primo collection. I am sure Darren and Phil are looking forward to working together.

count me in on a set    . . .

Sounds Fantastic !!
T2x I'm sure with you will give our sport its just rewards, Love to see something like this on prime time main stream TV. Joe

57 and counting.
|
Me too!!!!!!!!!!!

T2X
I'm thinking aloud...but maybe you can work out some sort of deal with Steve to sell those DVDs/Videos exclusively here on OSO...I'm sure you'll sell more than 57 and the only reason I bring this up is I'm sure both you and Phil and Darren have a minimum number in mind to make this worthwhile. All I can say is "build it, they will come" I for one would hate to dee this idea go by the wayside because a minimum number can't be reached... All the best :) Sean(the guy with the Cafe Racer stuck in the mud at the Hot Toddy Run) |
Hey Rich, Darren & Phil,
Also include in your count a 500 peice mailer to NJPPC members and former members - NO CHARGE! I just want a set for next year's NJPPC Winter Party in Atlantic City. Hey - how about a private preview party at a bar with a few dozen TV's & Big Screens. How cool would that be? |

I'm sure the narrative from the obsolete announcer is worth the price alone...
