2.5merc /scat cat

has anyone ever tried putting big azz power on one of these little cats, If so what happened, anyone get killed? I want to buy one, rienforce the transom and hang at least a 150 on it. think it'll work or am I gonna eat it :D
Winter is gettin long this year and I need more projects.
Martin.

packinair 02-25-2003 11:39 AM

I am in Ohio with ya.. we can pull a 2.5L off my cat and giver hell, I'll go for the ride.... and yes we will both be killed,

Wally 02-25-2003 11:48 AM

i bought a mini-cat off a guy in New Mexico that had a 150merc on the back.....it was a 14'er true tunnel cat.....he said it got to 70mph and started lifting the sponson!! Said it was very scary! and when you came off plane the water would rush over the back of the transome and flood the cockpit! Said it never sank but the bilge pump ran for a while after words!!! Some crazy people out there! :D :D

JUSTONCE 02-25-2003 11:52 AM

packinair lets run it at alum creek next year.
Wally what power did you run?

Wally 02-25-2003 12:13 PM

That perticular cat i never got running and sold it cause it was just collecting dust.....this other mini i have had a 50hp outboard on it. Thats all it was rated for

Airpacker 02-25-2003 12:49 PM

And everyone thinks I'm nuts because I wanna hang a 40 on my 10 foot cougar cub, geeesh!!!

JUSTONCE 02-25-2003 01:13 PM

I could see 2 300x motors on a 12 ft cat being certian death, but I bet a single 200, or 225 on a 8-10 ft cat would be a wild ride on glassy water not so much top end cause I my pilot lic. isn't current but acceleration would be killer.

packinair 02-25-2003 01:33 PM

What if we take both of mine and hang one off the front with some kinda bracket cause 2 on the back would sink us for sure... Hmmmmmm...

boot 02-25-2003 01:34 PM

Dont' know about the cat but I have a very tiny 16' V bottom ski boat . It is rated for 80 hp. I have a 140 hp on it ! I don't know how fast it goes but it is faster then the hull ,AND I ,can handle ! ON flat water it is awesome ! Add a 6" chop and you got problems ! I have stuffed it about 3 times ! Lucky no damage . I can tell you with the battery, 12 gallons of gas and the motor in the back it sits with the rub rail right on the water ! If you get a little breeze it is eough to get wet in the boat !

As you can see from the pic of my cub on that thread,a little 25 sits way high on the transom, can you imagine a v6 on there. Never mind that I think the weight would put the back under water.

ragtop409 02-26-2003 01:13 PM

I think the mini-cig would be great with the big V-6 hanging on the back, but I would not even think about any big water or saltwater. Charlie

Mini Muscle Boats

I had a 1972 13' Checkmate Mx 13 for about 10 years. During that time I bolted many different motors to the back. The largest was a 6cyl Mercury.

I like to think I am an intelligent man. Perhaps I was drinking a bit too much of the blue cool aid, but when you launch your boat and the transom floats aobut 6 inches under water, it should be a sign...
