OT: Mr. Rogers has left the Neighborhood
A sad day for all. Althought I have not watched for 30+ years he was still one of the last "good" guys who seemed to avoid the normal problems associated with working with young children. I am sure he has lots of fans where he went.:D
|
Icon for all children. Will be missed.
|
Pantara, I bet there are few on the board who actually watched him. Most have heard of him though. There was an Urban Legend that he was a sniper for the military. It was just a Legend though.
|
A very sad day indeed. I watched him when I was a little cowgirl. Everyday on PBS. He will be missed. :(
|
I don't know if this is true or not but a few years ago I heard that he also counsoled married couples on sex.
Just imagine how messed up your sex life must be to go to Mr. Rodgers for help !:D |
I grew up watching him and I had hoped my kids would be able to as well. It is sad that he didn't live longer. I will be 40 this year and I think he was only 72? . Wow Life is short!!!!!
|
Used to come home from school and watch him everyday.:( :(
He passed away at 74 yrs old - had been battling with stomach cancer for a while now. Hope they keep airing the shows. |
Wow, 74. That beats the average by 2 years:eek: Maybe he had stomach problems from having to bend down to tie his shoes:D I am sure he will be on TV for some time but may vanish over time....kind of like BOZO.
|
I used to watch him every day. It is sad to hear he is gone.
Tommy |
I watched him a lot when I was a tot; too. I always wondered why that damn trolly did not go any faster. Maybe it needs a Whipple. RIP Mr. Rodgers.
|
Yea, a sad day indeed. I used to watch him to, it was nice to come home to a genuinely nice guy after dealing with my mean peers all day. Kind of funny how many power boaters watched him?
|
I THINK MR. ROGERS WAS AN ICON TO BOTH CHILDREN AND ADULTS. CHILDREN LOOKED UP TO HIM TO LEARN AND ADULTS LOOKED UP TO HIM FOR FORGIVNESS OF THEIR SINS, IF THEY CHEATED ON THEIR WIVES AND HUSBANEDS! but didn't tell each other. THANK YOU!!! {WORD TO THE MOTHAAA!}:D
|
When I was a kid and his show came on I would hide behind my fathers lazy-boy and watch it ......not sure why ... he freaked me out..guess I've always been leary of anyone who wore a sweater...and changed thier shoes when they came home
|
I watched him EVERY day as a kid.
They say immitation is the highest form of flatery. I give you Eddie Murphy: "Let's put mr. hampster in the microwave. That's called severe radiation boys and girls. Can you say severe radiation? I knew you could." Mr. Rogers will definitely be missed. Mike |

AOL SAID THAT MR. ROGERS REALLY GOT A KICK OUT OF MR. ROBINSON.
|
anyone ever hear of Skipper Chuck ??
|
One of the last eople who genuinly liked children. Not someone who just wanted a little boy to "cuddle" up to.
He will be missed by many. |
Good bye to a good and descent person.
|
I thought this was going to be a blast session on ole' Mr Rodgers, glad to see it is not. He was a preacher and was said to be a very great man. I watched him a little as a kid....we all have to go at some point.
The stomach cancer was as a result of many years of heavy drinking and a vicious heroin addiction that left him bankrupt at about 65 years of age......no no....KIDDING....just kidding......calm down, just teasing......HeHeHe....sorry, I act like an 8 year old sometimes...... Sorry Mr. R, just giving you a little flaterry like 'Foul said......RIP big guy......Allan |
Mr. Rogers,Mr. Dressup,The Friendly Giant, are probably hanging together in the neighbourhood right now. Three great "friends" of children everywhere. Its too bad that todays kids get pokeman, mutant this and that, battle everything and will not ever know the comfort that these guys gave to the kids of a simpler generation.
Put on you loafers and cardigan Fred, kick back and relax, you did a great job. |
He probably didn't die in the usual sense, rather, he got on the trolley and simply went to "Someplace else". When my boys were younger they watched him, and I would think about some of the characters and their interaction. For instance King Friday was a puppet...but he had a full size human daughter..... I often wondered what impression that made on a child
;) T2x |
RIP Fred.
Stomach Cancer.....as I'm wolfing down a chili dog on my break!!!!!:( |
Can anyone remember the radio comedy skit (can't remember who did it - Cheech & Chong maybe?), where Mr. Rogers was interviewing a blues musician on his show? Pretty funny -
Mr. Rogers: "Can you say, 'Egg McMuffin'?" Blues Musician Dude: "Eggamuffin'" Mr. Rogers: "I think it's time to go to the 'magic kingdom'." Blues Musician Dude: "Nah, man, it's too early for me!" |
