Smartcraft SC 5000 from Mercruiser
A good customer just bought an 03 353 Formula with 525's,wants to install the new Sc5000 monitor. It's a little too large for the dash and Merc has superceded the part # several times which scares me a little. Anybody have one or have any input?

How about SC1000 gauges?
I want to add those to my boat. It give all the extra info I'm looking for.

The SC5000 is a large monitor, like a big GpS unit. Tells maybe more than you want to know, without giving up the regular analog gauges that are easy to read. I ran a new Donzi fishboat yesterday with Smartcraft gauges, boat only had 2 tachs and 1 speedo. Any info you want, just scroll on "mode". I hated it,I like to see a fuel gauge and a water pressure gauge and an oilgauge and a trim gauge, etc.,all at the same time. While I'm scrolling mode I might be running over a buoy.

Exactly, I don't want to be pointing, clicking, and scrolling while I'm driving a boat 60 (or more) MPH. Leave it for the 30 MPH cruiser crowd who are looking for something more to play with at those speeds. If fuel burn is the main concern, take it from a repeat customer and installer...get Floscan and be done with it (and more accurate I'll bet!)
