super cat light - questions
while watching freeze frame , the narrator was saying 500hp engines to most of the boats.is this true?is there a limitation?
so why are they using ssm-6 drives with 500hp engine? what are the speeds on this class? thnx for help.. |
yes it is true, hp500 is the only motor. We ran #6 drive because they will never break with 500hp. You have to finish to win.

For the 2003 Season SCL can run one of three power options. That being the HP500 EFI, HP525, and the GM Vortec HP3. Also having the choice o Sterndrives such as the Mercruiser Bravo One, XZ, XR, XR Sportmaster, XR Short Sportmaster, and the #6 SSM Sterndrives from Mercury. The IMCO Xtreme Advantage Drives are also approved for this class

i know you cant beat a 6 drive but its very expensive.i mean bravo sounds enough to 500 hp. am i wrong?
i am talking about 40k price difference... |
Your best answer to that would be to someone who has raced the class. I have not. I heard that the #6 did not need the amount$$$$ of maintanence as the bravos. Now the Bravos have been upgraded and built to stronger tolerance I am told. I have also been told that you give up MPH with the #6 but make up for it in the rough water. Team Tellium was a #6 boat and was very dominate with there set up. I think now you will see more people running the bravos cause of the speed advantages with them.

Like he said, you have to finish to win. Think the DPX is also allowed in SVL, not sure of SCL

In rough water you can't beat the #6 drive, if flat water you really need to work to be competitive. I was the driver for Tellium the two years it raced. |
