Subject: Re: mounting problem
Hopefully you can give me an idea as to how I can rectify a problem.
I have a 1989 Fourwinns 211 Liberator and the problem I have is that the tabs were mounted at the factory and because of their placement, do not
retract far enough. In your instructions there is anywhere from 5/8 to 1 inch of negative difference between the hull when fully contracted. Mine are actually below the hull in a positive manner.
I belong to an offshore powerboat club and on their website someone with a similar boat had the same problem. He had spoken to someone at Bennett and they suggested a way to take the ram apart and slightly modify a
stop inside so that it would retract further. I would much rather go
that route as opposed to remounting the rams and having to fill hole.
Unfortunatly I can't remember who the member was and lost the info that
he had supplied.
Any info that you could supply me would be greatly appreciated. I would
love to take care of this as soon as possible since boating season is
just about on top of us, I look forward to hearing from you.
Thanksl

Mr. Anderson,
Thank you for contacting us with your question.
I believe I know what you are talking about and yes you can try cutting
the Upper Hinge Spacer (#4) down to allow more retraction, but you will
need to be very careful. If you toque on it a lot, it will snap out of
the Upper Hinge and you will have to replace it. I believe your best
bet is to provide us with your mailing address and we will be happy to
send you two new Upper Hinges w/Reduced Height Spacer already installed
and we will do this at No Charge to you! The kit will come with
installation instructions, so it is very easy and all it will cost you
is a little time!
I look forward to your reply.
Sincerely,
M.J. Thomas

Is that great or what. I have dealt with them once before and got an immediate response, one that was truly to my likeing.
I just felt I had to give Kudos to them for what I perceive to be a company that cares about it's customers.

2 years ago I needed a Bennett tab for my boat - the tab was custom made for Sea Ray and no longer in production.
Tom McGow from Bennett was terrific to deal with and had my replacement tab sent out in just a few days! Totally awesome customer service - a lot of other company's out there should try and emulate the Bennett way of doing business.

I have heard nothing but the same positive postings about Bennett. That is great, a manufacture that really stands behind their product and works with a customer.
BTW, send them a link to this thread. I'd bet they would appreciate knowing what the customers say about their public relations!

No question about it, their customer service is top notch. They offered to fix my indicator issue for free even though it's out of warrantee. The strange thing is that I wasn't even looking for help from them, the problem with it is no big deal. I posted a reply regarding Bennet on another site that has more west coast boat chatter on it (I have a Nordic) and they contacted me and wanted to resolve my problem...that goes a long way with customers. I haven't taken them up on their offer, but it's great to know that there are still some companies that care. Gaffrig is another example of prime customer service also.

This made me remember
a Book about customer service should have their name on it. This made me remember that in 1987 I bought a Scarab Panther with Bennett tabs, The first month The marina where the boat was racked lifted the boat with the tabs down, and both plates were bent, I called Bennett up to purchase (2) new plates, and I was told If I would give customer service my address, they would be happy to send new plates out free of charge. 16 years ago, and I still remember.
