Does anyone have one of the new Chevrolet Suburbans, what is your input on the 2500 and what engine is it best to go with, the 8100 or the 6.0.Also what has been the reliability record for the new trucks,I have a 1996 Suburban at it has been great,I would apreciate any input. Thanks

I have a 2002 3/4 ton 4x4 with the 8.1L engine, 4.10 rear gear, and love it. Much better truck than the older model, and the 8.1 is way better than the 454. Tows great, pulling a Top Gun.

My wife has a new one, She loves it! I have her old one (98) I like the old one better. But just for stupid stuff like the map lights, console, bigger gas tank, and 4X4 looks. The newer one has better brakes. The newer one is lower to the ground which she likes. The new one has back buckets which make the third seat more user freindly. I like the 5.7 motor better than the 5.3. A freind has a 6.0 pickup truck and loves it. Pulls anything he has ever asked it to do, has the better brakes. (2500HD) But I still like my duelly best.

New Burbs are great, but if you're leaning towards a 2500 I guess you plan to tow with it.

If you liked the 350/2500 in the old style and it served your purposes well enough as far as power, then you'll want the 6.0
and 4.11's

The 8.1 is a roaring gas hog. Runs and pulls great, though. Really depends on how often you tow.

Powerstroke Excursion is a fantastic towing machine.

Go test drive everything to determine how well you can tolerate the ride of the Excursion (it's rough). The Suburban rides much better.

Pay attention to the gas mileage stickers. They don't lie. And on the Suburban, adding decent looking tires will yank another 1 mpg out of it.

My 2500 454 suburban with 70,000 miles seemed worn out. Brakes, steering suspension. My Excursion with now 90,000 seems to be perfectly fine. I've ran it hard, towed all over with $14,000 lbs and still fine. I'm not a ford fan but just the facts.

I work with two guys that have identicle trucks, one has 6.0 the other has 8.1. They both pull campers and they both compared mpg towing. The 8.1 gets @ 3-4 better towing but the 6.0 gets gets @ 2-3 without.

Hey guys,
I have a Ford F 350 with a 7.3 DI and a chip,I have also added propane injection and a jake brake,NOTHING will out tow it and I dont care what you are driving.I am just curious about the Suburbans because when you travel long distances with the wife and kids the extra room has always been nice to have and the Excursion rides like my Dually and that is not very comfortable to go long distances in.Also on many of those trips the boat is along for the ride.
