Default Center of Gravity location?

Does anyone know the center of gravity (CG) location, on a Skater, Fountain, or any raceboat?

regards,

doubt any racer is going to give away secrets that he spent weeks testing to figure out for himself.

Probably true, but i think treadwell will get you pretty damn close. He is always willing to help out. He was going to not only bring my boat from Fla to Jersey for gas money and a few burgers, but was willing to spend as much time with me dialing it in. A true class act.

And what results did he achieve dialing it in?

Most of the vessels in the 30'-35' range I have balanced put the C.G. right at the dash/helm area.

The twin step boats we strapped wanted the C.G. dead between the stepp's.

Bow heavy boats have a tendency to hunt in a heavy sea, and stern heavy boats tend to ramp to the moon. The ramping is easier to correct by dragging tabs, however you waste a lot of energy that way.

Hope this helps!

There are dozens of variables in each boat that would change the CG. Therefore it would be impossible to translate from boat to another. It is far better to figure it out on your own with the help of the manufacture. There is a correct place to "place " the CG on each boat and your effort should be two fold, one determine where the CG is and two rearrange the movable balast(motors, batteries, trim pumps, dry sump tanks) to palce the CG at the desired location. Remember that you may want to alter the position of the CG based on the type of driving you do, conditions and how you want the boat to handle. Otto

Yes, but where do you want the center of gravity to be? I presume as far back as possible. That way the boat will carry the bow the best with the least amount of trim. I don't see how the cg will affect how the boat flys. Wouldn't it fly level no matter where the cg is? I always thought it was more a function of trim and the conditions than cg.
