2.5 vs 300 pro XS

What do you think about 2.5 vs 300 Pro?

Can anyone give me the pro's and con's?

Is there a significant price difference?

man this is an important thread; i hear outboarders always discuss this stuff..i have no idea to vote but will watch this poll.

by the way : how many hp exactly is 300X?

Brad Perry 03-06-2003 04:49 PM

330

timucin 03-06-2003 04:53 PM

himm;
i dont know why but everybody including ocean outboard ny. didnt tell me exactly how many hp that engine was ( when it was first introduced....)

330 : cool

if you are going to put it on a light boat or a cat the 2.5 is the way to go you can also modify the 2.5 easer and cheaper and pull more hp from it

I hope this poll/thread gets some attention, I'd like to hear peoples opinions on this. I am in the process of buying 3-300X's or 3-2.5 Offshores for a 2003 35' Motion Cat. I have a budget for this project but I'm almost forced into the 300X's because of the technology in this engine as well as the phasing out of the pre-mix non 555 controlled 2.5's. Let's here it!!!! (By-the-way, I voted 300X)

Triple engine? 2.5's twin engine 300X

Hi Timucin, hope everything is Ok. in Turkey, when is your 28' going to run.???

AZ, I have a 32’ Skater with (2) 300X. IMHO I think I would use (3) 2.5 on that 35’ Motion. This boat just screams for the 2.5’s. I had a 28’ Skater that had 300 promax’s (2), and the promax’s were very dependable, easy to live with, and the boat was almost as fast as a 2.5 boat. The 300’s made the 28’ a little tail heavy, but not too bad. The 32’ Skater had (2) 300 promax, the 2.5’s would not have enough for a twin engine 32’, WE took the promax's off after 20 hours and installed 300X's, the X’s are faster on the twin engine boat, but not as dependable. If you are going to use (3) engines the new 2.5’s will give the boat good balance, and a great top speed. Have you ever had a pleasure cat with a middle motor? You say that Merc. is going to use oil injection and the 555 on the 2.5 offshore?

Philip how it hangin You been quiet lately. Do you have you'r skater ready? Do you think you have your problems sorted out?

Michael

\ AZ Philip has a good point. That middle motor gets the crap beat out of it. One good point will plane off on any two motors
