jet ski racing to join apba

apba announces jet ski racing at various races this year !!

Hey I think it is a great idea! I am surprised they didn't do it earlier.

Great idea.

many fans get upset due to the various pauses between heats/races.

At Cypress Gardens this year they filled the inbetween races with quasi races amongst about 15 Jersey Skiffs. Although the skiff drivers were having a ball showing off for the fans, many were complaining about being beat to death by the intermittant runs and the pounding they take..But... the fans loved them...

I used to race IJSBA; Region 8. I think this has plusses and minuses.

Plus... Added attendance to events of Offshore Powerboating.

Plus... More exposure for coverage of both sites.

Minus... Rif-Raf; the sport of PWC Racing has serious rif-raf amongst its competitors and spectators. We always had problems with things such as fights, to theft, to all kinds of crap. There are at least a few stories of 'gentlemen racers' pitching in to help other (boat) racers out; especially after mishaps and so forth. This hardly ever happened at any IJSBA race I was at. I have seen nasty cut-throat things happen from pulling drain plugs to cutting cables to blowing motors.

Minus... Believe it or not, the IJSBA and PWC are at the heart of more controversy than we are. Between he plethura of the PWCs being 2 strokes, (yes new models are cleaner and some 4 strokes, even with catalytic converters), noise, idiots, and so forth; this is going to draw more of those damn tree huggers and so forth to our sport, when they literally show up to picket (yes has happened to us) a PWC race, and it affects our races as well.

We will see how it works out, but I do not think this will be a long term affair.

I hope this is a turn for the better for PWC racing and it's future. Things don't look good right now. If the current sanctioning body continues like they have been the sport as I know it will no longer exist. I realize this may not mean squat to most on here, but it's been a part of my life for a long time now.

There also used to be "Duck" racing that preceded offshore races at various USORA events.
These were inflatables with one outboard motor and a crew of 2, one "driving", the other as movable human balast hanging onto the straps in front.

What next saibote races:rolleyes:  They should worry more about keeping race sites.
