Life Jackets

Does anyone know of life jackets other then Lifeline that look good for pleasure boating, let me know please.

Dave M 03-19-2003 09:28 AM

I'm looking for some decent jackets too. I've heard the "how much is your life worth". I can't believe the prices on lifelines though, and they are not CG approved. There must be a quality alternative at a decent price. I've been considering the inflatable types.

Ben@SRP 03-19-2003 09:29 AM

Mike,
We at SRP (Security Race Products) make high speed poker run style lifejackets too. Checkout www.SecurityRace.com or feel free to contact me. I run the Offshore Racing Division of SRP. You can also see some additional pics at my web site, www.BenHedrick.com

Thanks, Ben

I've been looking on the bass fishing sites. The fishing pro's have good looking jackets but havent found one I like yet.

dyno 03-19-2003 09:36 AM

I've seen the Poker Run America jackets in pictures in the magazine but cant find where to buy them...Ben can you get together a group deal on the Poker run jackets? Do they make them with a collar?

R Addiction 03-19-2003 09:49 AM

I use Sospenders with automatic inflation. Comfortable, but they leave some weird tanlines!

Pacificlink 03-19-2003 09:52 AM

I have about 10 pc. Adult and 4 pc. Kid Sospender life jackets for sale. Brand new perfect condition. I sold my boat before I had a chance to use them. They are Dark Blue in color. $75 ea. Call Matt (516) 398-4600

Ben@SRP 03-19-2003 04:53 PM

Treadwell,
You go boy... You tell'em who got dah best...
I tell people all the time, all they have to do is try an SRP on and they would be sold. I just order myself a new One Piece Torso Offshore for the F1 boat. Thanks for the input.

Cya soon, Ben :D

dyno 03-19-2003 06:47 PM

Ben you didn't answer my question! guess then the answer is no.....

Treadwellmotorsports 03-19-2003 07:08 PM

i am sure ben would do a group buy.

Treadwell

Ben@SRP 03-19-2003 08:16 PM

dyno,
Sorry... Didn't see your question.
To answer your question, Maybe... Although I will tell you that this has been tried three times before, with very little results. We can talk about it, we can post, we can try all kinds of things, but until some body comes to me with a minimum of a 10 jacket order paid in full, I can't see it happening. But it you want to try, go ahead. I have just found it very difficult to get people to comment to a group purchase.
Also to answer your question, yes; our poker run jackets can come with a collar, but unless you're wearing a helmet it will not do you any good. They do come in just about any color and can have stripes and logos (embroidery). Let me know what you come up with.

Ben

Pacificlink, Im going to call you tomorrow about the kids size pieces. Thanks. By the way, are they automatic? ;)

cookee 03-20-2003 04:35 AM

There is a company in New York who do all sorts of stuff as well as life jackets called tigerperformance - hope that helps?

Pacificlink 03-20-2003 07:29 AM

Yes, all of the jackets are automatic and have never been fired.

skatermike24 03-20-2003 07:31 AM

BODYSHOT1 03-20-2003 09:37 AM

What are the differences between Sospenders and Stearns? Both are auto inflate.

rbtnt 03-20-2003 07:12 PM

I was going to buy auto inflates last year until I remembered what happened when a friend stuffed. Everyone went flying forward against the dash and the back of seat. The auto inflates won't protect you like the other jackets.

Dave M 03-20-2003 07:22 PM

What is an acceptable amount of bouyancy for a vest? I noticed that different jackets all listed as type III varied from 15-35 lbs. of bouyancy. How much bouyancy does a lifeline or SRP have?

I was considering the inflatables but rbtnt brings up a good point that they don't offer impact protection.

Sospender Inventory:

5 Black adult vests = $75 ea.

4 Navy Blue adult vests = $75 ea.

2 Kids navy blue vests $75 ea.

I have inflatables for both myself and my daughter. They are much more compfortable, especially on hot days, so actually get worn (mine that is, daughter was ALWAYS made to wear hers even with the hot full jacket). I bought hers first to help out on the hot days, and then decided it was stupid not to have and wear one myself. It's nice knowing that in an emergency I could just jump over to help her (lanyards will kill the engine).

For running fast/rough (relative in my boat LOL) I also have a 100 mph impact rated jacket I wear instead.

I think the combination of compfortable cruising vest and high performance jacket gives the best mix of options.

PacificLink - If this was ebay, I coudn't give you enough positive feedback! Thanks for the vests - they arrived immediately. Anyone else looking for a good deal on SOSpenders - this is it.

kitten 03-28-2003 07:24 PM

Check for recall by Coast Guard

Coast Guard reports that SOSpenders Corporation is recalling approximately 7,200 automatic inflatable personal flotation devices. Approximately 300 defective Hammer units in one lot were loaded incorrectly and will not inflate the vest.

The "pfds" have the brand name SOSpenders. The affected units can be identified by a Yellow hammar MA 1 Manual/Automatic Inflator Cap.

If you find that your unit might be in question, you can contact SOSpenders customer service at 1-800-858-5876 8:00AM - 5 PM Monday through Friday

Anyone check out any wakeboarding/ski neoprone life jackets? 100$ for non cg approved, (throw in a 5$ type II i think under a seat to be legal) it feels like wearing a shirt.

dyno 03-29-2003 04:48 PM

Hyper neoprene is hot as hell..... I wish it wasn't but that why they make wet suits out of it. I'm leaning twards a set of 100 mph impact jackets from Bass pro!

HyperBaja 03-29-2003 04:54 PM

Never noticed it being hot, normally wear it when wakeboarding so it is wet.
