Trailer Bunk Covers
 

Does anybody use those plastic covers over their bunks rather than carpet? I need to replace the carpet on mine and was thinking of these as an alternative.

If you do use carpet, Home Depot carries a heavy felt called 'Island Marble'. It is less than $2.00 per linear foot (60 inches wide I think).

I had those teflon bunks on a previous boat trailer and let me give you one piece of advice... DO NOT UNHOOK THE BOW EYE UNTIL THE BACK OF THE TRAILER IS IN THE WATER. It didn't happen to me, but I saw someone else dump their boat on the ramp:eek: :eek: Those things are slick:D :D

I NEVER unhook the winch strap or safety chain until the trailer in IN the water.

Were do you usually put in? I may have seen you around. What does your boat look like? Did you buy it from Ft. Belvoir? I remember seeing a Grey Formula for sale there a year or two ago.

I load/unload usually by myself. I require a cover that will grip the hull so I can crawl up the bow and hook the eye when loading. Unloading doesn't matter cause I leave the eye hooked and back in till she floats just a bit.

I have heard that the plastic bunks do not "clean" the bottom of your boat, either. After a while, you may need to have a forklift pick it up so you can clean around the bunk strips.

I bought my boat from Offshore Performance in Graysonville (Kent Island). It used to be owned by another OSO member- wylie
and was traded in for a 382 Formula. I keep it at Pohick Bay and run the river between DC and Popes Creek. I grew up in Fort Washington and kept a previous boat (1972 Sutphen) at Port Tobacco for years. I'm sure that we have crossed paths in the last 20 years. Remember how much fun Cap't Billys was in the late 80's/ early 90's.:D :D :D :D

Nice boat Craig. I have seen that boat around. Captn Billy's was even better back then? It's still pretty good. That was before my time. I didn't grow up in MD. I put in at Goose Bay most of the time. I plan on going out tomorrow.
