Joe,
It would take me most of the day to try to convey my anger and frustrations,(mostly because I can't type worth a damn)But to make a long story short....When I first started the fire service the firefighters and officers covered each others backs ,even sometimes when we weren't right,we served the citizens, and city hall was our enemy. Now we kiss city halls ASS,write the people that pay our salaries,tickets..and most every firefighter and officer will stab you in the back,in a heartbeat.

I have been a Volunteer one way or another since I was 15, as my Dad was a Volunteer. Started in small town DeMotte, Indiana.
Now with Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department, Fairfax, VA. I have even had my boat out on the Potomac River doing Search and Rescue a few times. (Same thing when I raced PWC). It is nice to have the County fill the tank for you.
I have to admit I am not as "ate up" and active as I used to be. The beauracracy of Fairfax County destroys the personal rewards. Many career folks do not like the volunteers here either. I nearly became a FF in the Air Force, but now I am glad I did not, as the money is just not in it on the outside.
