I Blew a motor...
Over the weekend and think I will take the opportunity to upgrade. I am looking at long blocks (I have new CMI's, carbs and alternators) and would like some opinons. Old motors are 454 420's and want to go to 502 500's. I have found a site, www.1800runsasnew.com and they look like they put out a good product. $5600.00 for re-man long blocks. Has anyone used these guys and are they any good? Any other suggestions?

Boy you where having a lot of fun with those new drives!

Mongo,
I bought 2 new 454HO/425 HP motors from them several years ago. I was very pleased with the product, although the 454 HO was a new GM base engine. I have no experience with thier rebuilds. They are very easy to do business with. Kurt |
BIGGUS THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH FOR SPEED KILLS...
I AM LOVING IT! THANK YOU AGAIN;) :puppy: |
Thanks!
Cat, the pulse is working great. VERY pleased with the drive. I will never own a stern drive again. Yeah Jake, 3 cute babes on the boat going around 6 and then a loud noise and lots of smoke. I'm going to replace with 500's, so I should get around 80 out of it when I'm done. I'll check out Doug. Thanks Kurt. I thought that I had read someone bought motors from them before and they like them. Anyone else? Mongo |
Lucy,
I`m glad you like it! Tell Magnum Mark that I enjoyed talking with him! Kurt  |
I have a pair of their 502s with prochargers. These motors never even hick-up! Great motors, great price. Mine were brand new though. They also have a 540 "Attack dog" that puts out around 550+ HP. When it is time for me to upgrade I will definately go through them again!

did you burn your lips ??

Thanks pure,
I think I'm gonna give them a go. Do you know how long they have been around? Mongo |
I think OUR Pussers friend Charles has a 3208Cat left over.
:) :) If not im sure he has a Pain Killer to help out. Mike J. |
there are few members who've bough engine from them. They have a pretty good reputation and thierprices are very competative. Hell the 502/502 is down right cheap. I've heard the cam is abit agressive and can cause reversion with wet exhuast though.

Mike,
Yeah, well, no cats for this boat. Painkillers might have had something to do with it! Puder, Thanks for the info. I have CMI with the long tailpipes. The exhaust dumps into the Pulse housing, but about 3 inches above water line. Should be OK. I'm taking the plunge today. I'll keep everyone posted. Anyone want to venture a guess about top speed with a pair of 500's? 35 Cafe Racer, Pulse drive. Mongo |
my $0.02 - since your going through all the work to put in new motors and the Pulse will easily stand the power I'd recommend just getting the 540's now and be done with it. Otherwise you'll probably want more power about a week after the 502's are in.

Seems other than Puder, you haven't had much comment about the original question. I agree with Puder that there are quite a few members on the board that have used www.1800runsnew.com and they were very satisfied!

Hi Greg,
I thought about it. In my sea conditions, the boat gets run usually at around 40-50 mph. Any faster and myself and passengers would have to see a chiropractor after each day of boating. I'm guessing that I'll get around the upper 70's or maybe even 80 on a good day out of the 500's. Don't know if the extra 4K would get me much more and would be worth the $$$ Mongo |
