Default Extended Warranty

This past weekend I finally got my boat back from the dealer. Boat spent the winter in the dealers service bay waiting for the replacement engine to be installed. See other Post

http://www.offshoreonly.com/forums/s...threadid=38278

Since Mercury Marine is not going to extend my original warranty period, I'm thinking about purchasing an extended warranty.
The dealer has given me a couple of option.
A one year plan for $750, two year plan $1250, three year plan $1750, four year plan $2350, all these plans are through Mercury Marine. He also has a four year plan for $1590 through what he called the Passport Warranty.
The big difference between the plans, besides cost, is the Passport warranty will only replace parts with rebuild ones and sometimes not even mercury rebuilt parts.

Any thoughts?

I don't plan on making any engine modifications that may effect extended warranty, most likely will be look for a bigger boat in 2005, 2006 time frame.

I don't usually buy extended warranties. Odds are you won't use it, or they wouldn't sell it. IF you do need major repairs, they are great, but thats the exception not the rule. I usually look at that for the $2350 I can fix an awful lot of stuff.
If you do buy one, go with the Merc. Why pay to have junk parts installed, you obviousely take care of your stuff.

I agree with GO4BROKE. I waisted money once on an extended warranty and it would not cover some basic electrical problems because my boat was used in "saltwater"... Save the bucks and apply it to anything down the road. You'll be better off IMHO.

Good luck!
