ot:John deere Tractor
A friend of mine bought a new John Deere tractor. After 50 hours of service this is what he found in the transmission fluid. John Deere said this is normal. WTF
Has anyone had problems with this before, or know where he can get this issue resolved?

I have always owned JD tractors and currently have a JD445 Garden tractor. It is by far the best tractor I have ever owned. I have had ZERO problems with it and would buy another in a heart beat....
In your case, I certainly would get the JD rep to clarify that picture. I doubt that is common.
My Dad had a small issue with his JD tractor and the dealer got the Rep to meet my Dad at the dealership and the Rep wrote to my Dad indicating that if the problem came back, JD would buy his tractor back and give him a new one....so far so good.

He has talked to the dealer and John Deere customer service and they both tell him that this is normal for the 4000 Ten series of tractors. This is a $12,000 tractor $15,000 with all the implements. The transmission fluid doubles as the hydralic system as well. This crap could have done some serios damage if any made it past the filter. They appear to be thread chips from when the transmission housing was manufactured. One dealer said it depends on who assembles the tractor, some flush the housing before assembly some don't. Does anyone know if this is true?
