If I understand right from my brother Whipple has a valve that is a relife valve on each blower and it opens and closes due to releiving excess boost or something close to that and they sometimes are bad and leak boost ,from what I'm told it seems to stop the boost at about 4.5 lbs when broken by venting ! I 've had several people tell me this .
this is how you can change pulleys and the boost not go up ,,,really the only way possible ,right !
sounds like he's making progress ,sorry about the ecu's mabe their fat due to being set up for 7.5 pound and not making but 4.5 ,This kind of thing takes a long time shipping off ect,and your engine guys are I think at the mercy of others ,((bad place to be for all )) Is your buddy going up to n.c. everytime its tested ,WHY
That would be tough on everyone too, poor guy driving that far
get them to finish then him go up ,,is that not easier ??
just my 7 cents worth

P.S. It should fly with7.5 lbs if its going 80 with 4.5 lbs ,,,what prop did he use ??

Unhappy Long trips

He goes up everytime they water test because of his insurance policy on the boat. He is self employed so that helps. Keith told them to call him anytime they would water test and he would be their.
They are telling him if the ECU's are set up properly it won't matter what boost he has on them. They are saying the ECM's will supply more or less fuel. What ever the motor wants.
How is this possible if their is no O2 sensor. or is their one.
I'm getting a little lost.
Anybody know how these Whipple's feed the brain when they want more food?

Talking THEIR RIGHT ?

Called a buddy and their right the ECU reads boost density by a map sensor on the motor and changes the fuel flow as needed for boost so the ECU must be right from whipple and sounds like its off ,guess we should not second guess them they must know something ?
Boy I would hate to tune and test with a customer looking over my head ,,,I've never heard of this on motor work this detailed
but thats just me ,I don't know !maybe he just sits on shore ??
maybe this is eight cents worth

that beast (tank ) may run yet ,of course 80 from 67 isn't bad

Default I understand what you are saying

about hovering over a mechanic's head. Keith has been straight up with them. He has to drive his boat due to his insurance. He told them he understands about the ups and downs of first time water testing.
I don't blame Keith. He has a good chance to learn his motors and ask questions. They are nice enough to let him do this.

Thanks for the phone #. Keith stays pretty much in tune with this post. I'm sure he will call the #.

Default It's late for me but I have some news

Keith called me today and he ran the boat. He probably got it to 95% fo it's full potenial.

Labbed 30's
5700 r's
88.5 mph

About 18% slip

It was in the mid 80's today temp wise

Keith didn't hold it very long. He easied into the throttles and when he got to 5700 he got out.

He still is a little worried about fuel mixture and didn't want to stay in the throttles too long.

Sorry for the long delay, but it was little problems after little problems and all of this rain.
To be fair I'm not calling a winner until Keith has it fully strung out.
I'm sure that will happen this long weekend.

Update on Monday
