Default Bad Guess?

Sorry: went back and read the post again. I did not see the cam change and the head change. With all these goodies, going by the Whipple estimates, I want to change my guess to around 800 hp per engine and move that speed up to approximately 94 mph.
Damn, now I have to whipple to run with him. Good luck with the project and let us know how it turns out.

Steet, normally would not let the contestants change their bet, but since I think you did such a superb job on estimating the hp, I'm going to give it to ya

Street = 94

GLH, close. It's starts with Sugar but ends in Mountain. It's our local little bump in North Carolina. I too was an ski instructor in another life in Southern Indiana. Did it for over 10 yrs. Was some some of the best times of my life. I never did the helmet thing either. Then I got to thinking I wear a helmet in everything else I do so why not skiing. My bones are old now and my head is fried from my earlier life!

Hopefully Keith will have his boat together next weekend and we will be able to pull the moth balls out of the ole GPS and see what the big Bas-turd will do. Easter Weekend

Mike, will you and your buddy be going to the Lake Hartwell Poker Run? If so, we will catch up with you. It should be a great run. Have a good one.

Thumbs up Keith got his results back on the dyno work

Keith's engine builder is pulling out all the stops for customer satisfaction. Like I said earlier his dyno got smacked down by a Quad Rotor Whipple. So he took one of Keith's motors to another dyno facility. From what I got through Keith the motor was pretty strong. They took it up to 5400 and got 817 on the hp. The builder stopped at 5400 do to a lean situation. They are sending the ECM's back to Whipple to readjust the fuel curve on the upper end. The company that built Keith's motors sounds like they are a top notch business. They are working on the rockers. He thinks he can help a dead spot at 4900 by doing something on the rocker???

I am nothing close to calling myself a mechanic, but I am very impressed from what I have asked and what Keith has told me about the shop he took his boat to. They have made all good suggestions to Keith to make his boat as dependable as it can be.

Post Now that the hp is almost known

here is what I think the big Baja will do.

http://www.powerboatmagazine.com/2001tests/feb1.php
36 foot w/575s (550 @ pshp)
8,300 pounds, 5,200 rpm with 30's, was 82.4 mph radar and or 80.8 mph GPS 17.96% slip on GPS and or 16.33% on radar

http://www.powerboatmagazine.com/2003tests/march01.php 33 foot w/496 HOs (425 @ pshp)
7,500 pounds, 4,750 rpm with 30's, was 75.2 mph, 16.41% slip

Additional weight (minimum)
308 lbs = 50 gal of gas x 6.15 lbs. per gal (1 gallon of water equals 8.33 lbs. 1 gallon of gasoline equals 5.8 to 6.5 lbs.)
230 lbs = Body weight
50 lbs = the amount of stuff you can hide in a 36 foot boat!
---------
588 lbs + 8300 = 8888 Total weight

http://www.go-fast.com/boat_speed_predictions.htm

I put Total Shaft Horsepower as prop hp on both charts.

Keith's boat stock. This was figured by guessing the total weight, putting in what Mercury says the hp is at on the prop shaft, going by what Keith said his best speed was (68 to 69).

Boat Speed Calculator
Weight Total Shaft Horsepower Constant Speed
*8888********830************223****68*************

The price of Whipples "PRICELESS"
This is what I came up with if the hp turns out to be around 806 hp @ the crank. I then subtracted 25 hp off of the crank to convert it to prop hp. I used the same constant the constant as the stock set up. If anything the constant (prop slip) should get better. Why? The boat is going faster and lifting the hull out of the water creating less slip.????

Boat Speed Calculator
Weight Total Shaft Horsepower Constant Speed
*8888*******1558************223****93*************

Add the 1 inch shorties and I'll give Keith 95 mph max. and when the summer heat and humidity kicks in he will be 90.

If he gets the above speeds Keith will need 30 pitch props and will be turning them 5460 in the cool and 5172 in the heat.
