Gaffrig GPS Speedo/GPS compatibility
I have a Gaffrig Monster Speedo hooked to the NEMA output of a Northstar GPS. Speedo reads zero although Northstar shows speed. The Gaffrig receiver is around $200 and I figured I would be better off adding a compatible GPS to have a basic second GPS on board than to spend $200 on just an antenna.
My question is which GPS works with Gaffrig?

Not sure about your Northstar but my Garmin needed to have the "output" selected to the appropriate setting. Simply hooking it up to the wire did not work. Also make sure the both the GPS and the guage share the same ground.

Here is a copy of a post I made on the technical board last year.
This is how my garmin 12CX gps is wired to my gaffrig analog gps speedo.
the brown wire from the gps data/power cable is connected to the center wire on the smaller connector on the back of the speedo. this wire is white.
the white wire on the gps data/power cable is not needed for the speedo.
speedo large connector
red +12V
black ground
violet center position of clear/recall switch
gray recall side of switch
orange clear side of switch
speedo small connector
center white lead <--> brown lead from gps power/data cable
gps setup screen interface page
None/NMEA
NMEA 0183 2.0
4800 Baud
hope this helps, you might not have the small white connector on speedo if they had a gaffrig antenna/receiver connected to it

I just got the gps speedo and have it hooked up to my garmin 182. I used the blue wire from the gps. I think there is a software setting to enable the output port. I will check the ground, I was wondering about that when installing.

Just went through this myself. Purchased only the GPS speedo and tried to enterface it with a Ray Marine 320 GPS/Chartplotter.
It did not work!
Purchased the Gaffrig unit, was EXTREMELY easy to mount and hook up (less than 30 minutes total) and works perfect.
You will be blown away by how much cable comes with this antenna, about 50 feet!
Go ahead and buy it, I should have from the beginning.
Good luck
