Default 1998 500 bulldogs ?

Are they just the 500 hp or is there a difference? what went wrong with them? I know the hp carb motor had some problems for a while but that all was fixed about the time the EFI hp came out. I know some had valve spring problems, and heard about cam/dist. gear problems. What else and what did they need to be trust worthy with the Whipple set up.

Nope, not the same. The 500 Bulldogs are 540 cubic inches. They do still have 500hp.

I just did some other looking it apears that a 500 bull dog is the 540 bull dog. 540ci 500hp people just use one of those #'s and put bull dog behind it. I knew what the 540 was just never heard about the 500 before. I guess it depends on who you are for what # you use, I like 540.

Very good, expensive motor.
540 cid, tall deck, 4.375 stroke, all the good internals. Block, crank, and heads are the basis for the 900SC motor.
I think it originally came out as a 575 hp NA version years ago. Lots of potential in those motors.

The 540 was originally a 575 MCM. This was a 540 with a 1050 dominator carb. The 540 bulldog was almost the same engine with a smaller (850?) carb. It was rated at 500 HP, but at a lower RPM range which means it had more torque. The later engines were internally balanced. I have an article with specs and will look for it- Cool name for an engine.

They are the same as the "bow tie blocks" right??

I know a guy that might want to sell some that have been boxed up for over 5 years.
