Is this the boat your refering to?
I think Sean Stinson may be able to shed some light on it for you |
Not that one...The one that ran against INXS-both had canopies...It also set a kilo record. thanks for the picture.
Yellow & black. Cmon you guys surely know Ohio Steel. It's been in everything.
I think there was a feature in a Hot Boat magazine a while ago but i cant remember which one. It was for sale for a while though Dick Simon Yacht Brokers but thats all I can remember. The reason the boat was name "NADA Chance" was becasue the new owner was the owner or worked for the NADA Guide. Its a nice looking boat now.
This is the Ohio Steel/NADA Chance/Gotta Chance/Never Satisfied as it is today running off the backside of Catalina Island.

think he means the canopied Ohio Steel....right??
The canopied Ohio Steel boat and the boat pictured above is the same boat. Don Christie (NADA Guide) purchased the race boat and spent a ton of money and time doing the full re-rig on the boat. Yes, Stinson would have a lot of info on this boat as the work was done at Dick Simon Marine where he used to work. Mr. Christie intended it for use a a poker run/pleasure boat and had a stand up bolster set up installed. He named the boat Nada Chance and changed the blanck/yellow paint scheme. He later "donated" the boat and Dick Simon Marine again had the boat for sale on their lot. I'm not sure who is the owner now.
I was of the impression that the nada chance boat was the original Ohio Steel boat that was based on the 42 fountain and was always a open cockpit boat, and the boat cowisl was refering to was the 2nd Ohio steel boat which was a closed cockpit canopied 45 and they both were yellow and black with the name Ohio Steel down the side.

If you are talking about the original black & yellow Fountain that Patrick Patel bought from John Reban, it was painted purple, yellow and green and called "Barney". It was raced for 2 seasons by Patrick, Doug Lewis and Kristen Scibetta. We sold to someone in California several years ago. I believe it has since been repainted, thanks goodness!

HI LEEANNE,
I THINK HE IS TALKING ABOUT THE OHIO STEEL THAT RAN I'TS FIRST RACE AT THE 1994 WORLDS THE YELLOW SUBMARINE T2x liked to call it! |
Reggie did a lot of work to the bottom, and ran himself in 1996 with Jack Hanny and the boat was at Reggie's the last time as I recall.
It had a stepped bottom. the kind reggie invented :)
Reggie Invented the step bottom?????
thats the one. Wonder where it ended up?
Does anyone remember Dragonlady? That was also a very sweet ride....
Dragon Lady was a husband and wife based out of Ohio. Art Lilly throttle this boat for them and it was sometimes kept in Egdewater MD. I dont really know what even happned to it but I sure Art knows. If I see him I will ask him. I met this team at the Chesapeake Challenge a while back really nice people.
did Dragon Lady become Shockwave??..if so, it's now in the Instigator family.....
The first dragonlady was a custom made 35 foot velocity. It raced in Point Pleasant against Heartbeat when i saw it back in the day. One member of the team broke their nose that race.
a couple of boats burned p in art lilly's shop a year or so back...i wonder which ones they were.
BTW, Dragonlady, Ohio Steel, INXS and Spirit of Houston were some cool boats |
I think there was one race boat that burnt up in his shop during that fire but I dont know what it was. That inncident was not talked about very much as you can imagine why. Inspectech may now more then I do about that thought. He has got a boat sitting at Art's as we speak.
Dragonlady is being rigged for svl-twin
by team instigator... not sure who is racing it!!
IS JOE AND PETE IN DAYTONA WITH THE SVL BOAT?
Yes, Audacity's parents bought INXS and are converting it for poker running. We should be seeing it at a TOPPS event soon, I hope.
Jesse, I don't think so....Don't I remember both of them being in Fountain's add's??? Wasn't it a picture of both boat's and Dragon Lady......If I had more time today I could look through some of my old Powerboat Mag.'s....but, today is going to be CRAZY!!!!
Hey Velocity Mike,
Dragon Lady did not burn in the fire. The fire was caused by a transformer on the pole next to the building. There were witnesses who saw the explosion and the burning oil pour onto the roof. The Lilly's lost a lot of irreplaceable personal items as you can imagine with Art's career. Getting back to Dragon Lady the last time I spoke with Rich Tropolli he had the boat. I drove the boat one time with Art throttling in Pt. Pleasant. At 100 plus the boat's handling was great. With only a couple of minutes of seat time I felt I had complete control (well as much control as you can have when Art has the throttles) of the boat. Hope this helps. JW |
Originally posted by Fever Mike Did Audacity's parents buy the canopy Fountain INXS that won 1993 &1994 Super Boat National Champion and was a kilo record holder. Tres Martin worked on that boat, Terry Sabarese owned it. That was one on my favorite boats of all time. I have a HUGE poster of the boat that I was given years ago while eating at Sloop John B's in Ft. Lauderdale. Mike Carter |

There were three INXS's. One was an apache, the other two were fountains. One was a 47 and the other was a 45. The 45 Fountain set a kilo record only to be broken by ohio steel later that day. The two fountain INXS boats had some of the loudest exhaust systems i have ever heard..

Dragon Lady was renamed and was at Pier 57 when I was there in October.
Well the 45 canopied version I believe is no longer with us or it may have been rerigged and is white with red and blue striping.
There is an old story of dispute between Reggie and John that goes something like this. John got pissed at Reggie over god knows what and instead of racing the boat decided to put it in a crusher and smash it into a pancake before he would let anyone race it. Dont know if those are the facts or not. Also heard it was a flowerpot in Johns backyard. That's all I know. Thats my story and I am sticking to it. |
