Smoke on the Water - cross lake, or not?

Does anybody go to Milwakee and cross Lake Michigan to Grand Haven, or do you guys trailer around the lower lake? Party at Holidsay Inn? Where to launch? Park? Dock?

I go across from Milwaukee to Grand Haven regularly. Its about 80 miles. Last year we made a lunch run. Another time we went across at night. Its a nice poke. Good gas is in Muskeegon.

I do not recommend it if you have a south wind over 10kts.

there will be a small group of us doing the crossing this summer for the day to watch the poker run and go home that eve. Starting out at North Point or Racine and heading over to Grand Haven..
As it gets closer we'll get the details ironed out but right now its just a thought :D

It is 88 miles from Holland to Milwakee WI. Also don't try it with a east wind. We did it in 2 1/2 hours and that was stopping a few times. The slowest was the Queens cup sailboat rase. 15 hours of tacking into a headwind.

Noth East or North West wind is the best. However every once in a while usually in July you'll get a day when it's calm all the way across.
I like the 1-3' wave action the best...personally;)

if u go very early in the morning or right after sunset its usually pretty calm

Like Todd said early or late is a good bet...you guys should stay in Muskegon and hang out with us the night of the run...

Agreed. Calm is too boring. Of course, it all depends on what you're crossing in.;)

where are people going to be getting together/staying that are not participating in the run? we are thinking about coming down from petoskey, staying in the boat but need slip.

Hey Cigwillie! How are you doing? What have you been up to? Are you going to be out on the lake this summer?

Have you sold your boat?

Looking forward to summer
