The most fitting memorial to Jack,...and all of the others who died in a racing accident, is to answer this question in his memory:

What can we and the racing organizations do to prevent it from happening again?

May he rest in peace.

Great point Rich. Is there any knowledge as to the cause of the accident and the cause of death?

HEY T2X,

IT'S BEEN AWHILE. YOU DON'T REALLY THINK THAT THE POWERS AT THE TOP WILL TAKE YOUR SUGGESTION? IT IS A SHAME THAT THIS HAS TO HAPPEN AGAIN. BUT YOU KNOW THAT PEOPLE WILL RACE IN SPITE OF THE FACTS. IT IS SAD BUT TRUE, THEY ALL JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN.

Point well taken.....I believe the Hans device should be mandatory in open cockpit racing. This device is basically a 4 point harness to your helmet that restricts violent neck snapping. It could also be used with a neck brace around your neck as an optional supplement. Ever since I had the violent barrel roll in St. Pete I have been wearing the Hans device and it does work, takes some getting used to but definitely is worth the safety margin provided.

I also believe that alot of these boats were not made for stadium racing and maybe the corners should be widened so the course doesn't have such abrupt turns. I wasn't at Daytona so I can't comment on the course. Just my .02 take it for what it is worth.
