FT. LAUDERDALE OFFSHORE GRAN PRIX ANNOUNCES NEW DATE
4/9/03 - Ft. Lauderdale, FL - - The Ft. Lauderdale Offshore Gran Prix announced today that the 2003 APBA Offshore Southeast Divisional event has been changed from the weekend of September 19th & 20th to a new date of October 3rd & 4th, 2003.
_______Presented by the Child SMILE America Tour to benefit the Art Kriner Playroom at Kids In Distress, the two day event with Saturday racing was moved to accommodate competitors who may have been unable to attend due to other race scheduling conflicts. Teamed with that was a general concern for the equipment in the traditionally rough water arena, with few days to prepare for a scheduled GMC Pro Grade Series National event.
_______While the host hotel, the Radisson Bahia Mar Beach Resort & Yachting Center, is currently undergoing construction to its marina, the good news may be that the projected completion date by October may allow more teams to enter the competition.
_______"We are very excited about the date change because many of our "big water" competitors can now secure their spot in first 50 team entry guarantee. If construction is completed early, there may be a last minute opportunity for additional teams to compete as well," said Michelle May- Schmidt, Producer for the event, who added that the update Racer Manual and Entry Information is now available online.
_______While the teams who enter receive a two night hotel stay and a dock slip included in their entry fee, competitors should plan on entering early to secure any additional rooms for their team. With Race Headquarters, the New Auto Toy Store Thunder Row Dry Pits, Aqua Toy Store Wet Pits, Craning and Festival Events all located at the Radisson Bahia Mar, and the races running across the street in the Atlantic Ocean, rooms at the resort are expected to go quickly
_______There is also a special Race Weekend Rate available to family, friends and fans for only $99.00 per night plus tax by calling the Radisson Bahia Mar at 1-800-327-8154 and asking for the Ft. Lauderdale Offshore Gran Prix Rate. Online reservations are also available at bahiamar. net using the promotional code FLOGPR. Dock slips may also be reserved at a rate of only $39.00 for boats 40' and under by calling the Marina and asking for the race weekend rate.
_______Schmidt says the Coast Guard is securing a Multi-year permit for the annual event, and if all goes well, plans are to make it part of the APBA Offshore Pro Grade National Series by the year 2004.
