Duramax ?????

THINK I'M GOING TO GET A CREW 4x4 MAX. WHAT KIND OF MPG ARE YOU GUYS GETTING ??? IS 18 ABOUT RIGHT? DO YOU LIKE EM' DIDN'T LIKE THAT O3' FRONT END AT FIRST BUT NOW.........

Doug 04-17-2003 09:16 AM

I just sold my 2001 Silverado, dually, x/cab,4x4. I took the truck from Indy to Norfolk Va. the first week I had it and running 75-80 mph and got 16mpg. When I got there just going around town and some expressway it jumped to 19mpg. I have checked it 2 times pulling my Cigarette from Indy to Lake Cumberland and once to LOTO and got 13.1 mpg. I went to a weight station and the trailer with the boat on it weighs 14,040 pounds.
I ordered a new 2003 that was built last week and should be here any day. Thats how much I like the Duramax.
:D :D Have fun with your new truck. Doug

Little Tommy 04-17-2003 09:31 AM

I also have a Duramax Deisel. I not only use it as a tow vehicle, but also use as a plow truck here in wisconsin. I get any where from 16-19 mpg not towing and towing I manage to get about 13 pulling a 36 Apache. Total weight going down the road, 23,000 pds. The Allison transmission is awesome in the mountains with the grade braking. Our buddy Nykamp has the same set up and love it. We both have had no problems.

tunnelvision 04-17-2003 11:37 AM

THANKS !!! I FIGURED THERE WERE A FEW OWNERS HERE . HAVE TO SEE WHAT KIND OF UPGRADES SEEM TO WORK THE BEST. THANKS AGAIN FOR THE INFO , BET I DON'T EVEN KNOW THE BOAT IS BACK THERE!

bobby daniels 04-17-2003 11:45 AM

Just got my 03 last Nov. and with the winter fuel I got 16 mpg, and just filled up today and got 18.5, and I really run mine hard, my friend has a 02 with 25k on it and tooling around town he can get 22, his foots not as heavy as mine.

Oh yea, and I love it so far, 6,000 miles.

I thought Duramax was a brand of condom?

tunnelvision 04-17-2003 12:27 PM

THEY'VE GOT A CREW, AND A EXTENDED .EXACT SAME EVERYTHING ELSE. THINK THE CREW IS WORTH 3800.00 MORE THEN THE EXTENDED ???????

tunnelvision 04-17-2003 12:29 PM

THAT'S THAT WASH-N-WEAR BRAND FOR A BUCKEYE ISN'T IT !!!!!

SpectreBoy 04-17-2003 12:31 PM

I didn't think they were that much more, but I may be wrong, check base sticker to sticker to see the difference, I had a 4 door before this one and liked it, don't really miss it, but I hardy ever haul anyone but my wife, and what the hell I'm not going to ride in the back anyway.:D

tunnelvision 04-17-2003 12:32 PM

YEAH, BUT I WANT MINE TO BRING ALL HER FRIENDS !!!!!!!!

Jassman 04-17-2003 01:56 PM

We have a 2001 4x4 xtended cab w/91K, not 1 problem and 6 different guys drive it. I drive a 2002 crew cab 4x4 with my 37 Thunder get around 12, but I have a heavy foot, without the trailer and boat I average 16-17, mostly city driving and long idles at the job sites. I just ordered a 2003 Dually, so this one is going up for sale. 44K sticker, cost was 39K, added a speed grill, nerf bars, flat locking top for bed, edge performance module and a few other items, has 13k on it and looks brand new, gets washed once to twice a week. 35K as is, let me know if anyone interested. Thanks Jeff 228-216-0900

obnoxus 04-17-2003 04:53 PM

I still cant get used to the 03 headlights

Sydwayz 04-17-2003 05:28 PM

I like the look on the Avalanche. I don't care for it on the Silverado. Go for the GMC Sierra, and you have a much more classic look.

Cash Bar 04-17-2003 05:35 PM

I think you can get 33" tires under a stock d-max 4x4. Any more and you have to lift it accordingly.

US1 Fountain 04-17-2003 06:02 PM

I just pulled my 32' Fountain 1200 miles 2 weeks ago using a '03 GMC 1 ton dually w/ Duramax/Allison. Only got 9 1/2 mpg.
Was hoping for above 15. :( On the brighter side, what a POWERHORSE!!! I was going UP the Missouri mountains at 75mph and gaining speed!

My 3/4 Ford SD with the underpowered 5.4 would bog down to 35 mph going up smaller hills pulling my 27 Fever. Can only guess how it will pull the new 32'.

tunnelvision 04-17-2003 06:11 PM

STOPPED THINKING ABOUT IT AND BOUGHT IT ! I GO GET IT TONIGHT. OF COARSE I WASN'T THINKING ABOUT THE FACT THAT I'M WORKING OUT HERE IN MONTANA- AND NOT TRADING IN MY TAHOE. ANYBODY FEEL LIKE DRIVING A TRUCK 2350mi. BACK TO DAYTONA FOR ME ???? SCREW IT , THERE WASN'T ANY WAY I WAS GIVING IT TO THEM FOR WHAT THEY OFFERED. SURE DID LIKE BUYING SOMETHING FOR 40K+ AND BEING TOLD ''WE DON'T HAVE A SALES TAX HERE!'' HOPEFULLY I WON'T GET JAMMED BACK IN FL.

Sydwayz 04-17-2003 06:16 PM

Rent a U-Haul trailer, and take it back with you. You may even accidentally lose it somewhere in the mountains. :D

tunnelvision 04-17-2003 06:20 PM

:eureka: :eureka: :eureka: THAT----------WOULD BE TERIBLE !!!
NAW, I LIKE IT JUST SUCKS PULLING ANYTHING BUT I HATE THE WAY IT BRAKES UNDER A LOAD. ALWAYS AFRAID OF A PANIC STOP -AND NOT BEING ABLE TOO.:p :p

Mine gets about 16 on the hwy . 14.7 to15.3 in town. towing the hustler 11 and the race car trailer was 9.98mpg about 14500lbs. it has 10000. miles on it now.Trying to find a good looking grill ,cant find any tail lites for the hd .thinking about painting the front plastic and mirros white.still don't like the 03 front end but did not have a choice at the time.4x4 and dually prob hurts but got to have it.it has a pretty smooth ride compared the the other dually.cant go wrong with the 0 interest rite now. and they have been selling real close to invoice ,usally about 14 % mark up on invoice, the make there hold back 3% of invoice . look up kelly blue book on price its pretty close . I paid 640.oo above invoice because they had to drive 500 miles to get it in Nov.there was not very many out there then

the alternator and 4x4 switch just went out on it. the rep said on some that sets a code on the 4x4s they dont have a fix for them yet ,he said it gets stuck in 4x4 drive .hope this doesn't happen

Tarheel 04-18-2003 07:33 AM

Tunnelvision,

Have a 2003 4X4 SRW Crew Cab with the Allison 6 Spd MANUAL. 22 MPG highway, 20 MPG around town, 17 MPG pulling a 35 Fountain. I thought about a 3500 dually but I'm glad I went with the 2500. Hell of a lot better ride than my last truck - Ford F250 PSD. Enjoy.

tunnelvision: Thanks. It's a 6" lift, 35x12.50x17" tires.
All Fabtech components, done by Extreme 4x4 in Pheonix. He does great work, and accomodated my schedule by getting all of it done in 5 days! I get the most comments on the steps that electrically fold down once the doors are opened, and then retract when closed!;) Very cool.

Here's what I tow at 14 mpg (75mph):

tunnelvision 04-18-2003 09:53 AM

who makes those steps ??? nice cig. by the way. hey why don't you hang a vinal cigarette out the mouth of that bunny on the hull! then you coulda' named it ''smokin' rabbit'' !!!

Sydwayz 04-18-2003 10:35 AM

Bill, Congrats on the new truck! That ZF Six Speed Manual is likened to the one in the Corvette. I like that tranny a lot. Look forward to seeing you at SML!

StrikinLightnin 04-18-2003 11:47 AM

I pull with an '02 2500HD. D/A Extended Cab/Shot Bed.
Love it!
I've installed an Edge Products Inc. "Hot Juice Box"
which gives me an additional 125HP at the rear wheels.
Torque is approximately 250Ft. Lbs. over stock.
I have four choices of power levels,60,75,90,&125.
When pulling in the suggested 60hp level in tow haul mode
the truck very seldom will downshift.
You'll still get the mileage and will give your Duramax a great power increase.
I really enjoy driving my truck "Juiced"

:p :p :p
