Remember not to buy his CD's.
I don't know if everybody's TV stations have the commercial for Jimmy Buffet's cd set that is out. But where I am at it's on every ten minutes. Most of us probably know that he is a chairman and a lot of the $$$ behind the save the manatee act. He is a die hard blow boater and feels it would be just fine to stop power boating in Florida. I used to like his bar music until I learned this about him about 8 year's ago.
|
I'm with you...I learned of his views about a year ago and will never buy a single cd of his...
His views on the environment certainly did not preclude him from building a 200' dock in Sag Harbor, NY so he can tie his boats up...you can proabaly also bet that his other waterfront properties are simliarly developed. It the typical I've got mine and I don't want you to have yours mentality that you get from particularly those who live on the water. It's next to impossible to build on, or otherwise improve on vacant waterfront land in Southampton town(where our good friend lives). There is even a moratorium on all boat lifts, including hydrohoists and elevators...  |
It's a lethal combination: too much dope + too much money without really having had to work for it = a whacked out liberal trying to tell the rest of the world how to live.
|
I know, I live on the water and as of a week ago when you file to put up or repair a bulk head it went from $200.00 to $2000.00. Just to file and if they turn you down they keep the $$$.
Lucky for me my bulk head was just done and it was a real nice job so it should out last me. I am getting ready to do some work to my dock and put up some lift's but they wont know unless they see me do it. It's just to much of a pain in the ass to deal with them. Unless they catch you doing it or have pictures of what it looked like they can't prove it. That's how my uncle got out of a bunch of chit, they knew he did something but couldn't prove it and he put in a boat ramp, all I want is to add a walk way around my boat and another lift for my skiff. the whole job isn't going to cost 2k I'll be dammed if I'am going to pay that to file for it. |
Political views aside, I'm so sick of his music being played all day long on the Cape Cod radio stations anyway, I could just puke coathangers.
The novelty wore off immediately, for me, anyway---I'll stick with AC/DC, thank you. BTW---He's not as enviro-friendly as he may portray, as he just jumped in bed with a major sportfishing yacht manufacturer to not only promote their boats, but get one for himself, of course. THis, alone doesn't make him a bad guy (I'll have one, too, someday) ---it's the hypocrisy (sp?) that does.:hothead: Don't worry about me--I wouldn't have bought his CD's anyway. Now I just have more reasons not to.;) |
riskybusiness
I've been a problem child myself :hothead: :hothead: :hothead: |
No problem here, I never liked his music and never bought any so  to Jimmy :)
|
I'll keep buying the same Ted Nugent CD's over and over. That guy is pro-american and pro-freedom and speaks his mind freely.
He is also pro-human. He does agree that it is up to us to protect endangered species, but that WE are the "current" owners of this planet and it is senseless to value an animal more than a person. His view is that all of the bleeding hearts need to devote their money and efforts towards helping suffering legal American human children and to continue in that direction until there are no more suffering legal American human children before dropping a dollar or printing a word in media about overzealously demanding any sort of overly restrictive protection for a dam animal. He is also a strong advocate for protecting our borders and enforcing current immigration statutes, as opposed to inventing new useless ones. |
Spread the word. There are a lot of boaters out there that will list Buffet as some of their favorite boating music. Little do they know that he is trying to take away the thing they love most.
|
long live TED NUGENT!
Thats Funny Buffet's house in Key West has a boat slip/dock right out back in the canal:confused: |
Nuge is DEFINITELY Da' Man.

We FL. guys appreciate your support! If I ever meet Jimmy "Stuff-it" in person......
MD |
I have spent about 100 hour's behind the wheel of boats in Florida and want to move there in about 5-10 year's, that is if they still have power boat's then. I can't stand reading about all the crap you guy's are going though. How much in taxes do the manatee's pay?
|
No Jimmy Buffet Music - Period
I was in Key West back in February and the group that I was with, wanted to go to Margaritaville and I talked them out of it. I told them what a A&$%#ole he was and what he had been doing in regards to the ridiculous manatee situation and none of us went in or bought anything. Maybe he will go broke!!!! (Fat Chance huh?)

Jimmy Puffet SUCKS
|
I like Jimmy Buffett. Some of the best pre concert parties I've ever been to.Sure they wear out the songs on the radio and at the beach bars but thats what most of the tourists(read money)prefer to hear..As far as the no wake manatee zones go that sucks.I'd find a boat launch close to an inlet and head offshore where these boats belong anyway.
|
Inlets my A$$$$
Where do get that the boaters should move? Tread softly. Sore subject with the florida boaters. Me too. I have already been pulled over in the florida rivers, so I ain't happy either. Without the millions of $$$ that the boaters put into florida, they would roll up the carpet and file for Chapter 11 anyway. I don't remember the manatees spending any money on gas or food or motels or any other thing that puts money into Florida's budget. Maybe Buffet and his following should pay all the lost revenue for the Florida folks too. PUT THE MANATEES IN A MUSEUM IF THEY ARE THAT IMPORTANT
|
Is this Offshoreonly? Or rivers, lakes and canals only? Most of the boats frequently discussed here are offshore boats. We have no manatees where I live but plenty of waterfront residences and small commercial and pleasure fishing boats. We have no wake zones to protect properties and the safety of smaller craft.I have to idle a long way at times risking fouled plugs etc. but thats part of it.In the Gulf there are only the rules of the road to abide by.No speed limits,no wake zones or any other BS.Idle to the open water and raise total hell.Boats perform better with a chop than slick calm water anyway.Unless you have steps.......but thats been covered!LOL
|
I used to like buffet until I discovered how much he's against boating.
I'll bet his sea planes are louder than most offshore boats. |
But damn wouldn't it be cool to fly to a poker run in a seaplane? You might be able to do a couple in a day!
|
Offshoreonly
I would like to make a guess that 75 percent of the members of OSO are probably more fresh water boaters than salt water. I boat both and love both of them. Look at all the registered boats in the US and tell me where most of them are. It ain't in salt
|
OK Steet.I live in Louisiana so if we can make a gumbo out of those pesky manatees we'll knock em out. That way when you trailer your boat to FL you won't be annoyed by the no wake zones!!But I'm still gonna listen to Jimmy Buffett!!(the old tunes not the new stuff)Just picking at you man.Guess a ride in that Velocity(in a non manatee zone)is out of the question? We don't have to listen to JB if you don't want to.*G*
|
I think the musis is awesome. Have all of his CD's. His views are different though.
(I sound like a hippie "His views are different" ) |
Hyperbaja you are young enough to do any damn thing you want!Listen to these guys with the big boats and find out how they attained the wealth to own them.Follow their lead and set high goals.Happy Bday my man.(And listen to Buffett if you are so inclined, chicks dig it!)
|
Jimmyz27
If I am down your way I would like to try the jumbo (manatee). Yes, we can take a ride. Have a nice Easter Holiday.
|
Hey Jimmyz27 Yes when there are home's and stores and parks there should be a no wake zone. But when it's just a spot on a river with woods on the sides you should be able to go as fast a reasonable.
To say this is Offshore only and that is where we need to boat. I hope you are kidding because that is the dumbest thing I have ever heard, I believe it's OSO because of the boat's we own. I like to boat in both the ocean and river's, I prefer river's, It's a little tough to raft up and drop anchor in a 1000 feet of water. And I don't know anybody that get's in their boat and drive's it for 8-10 hours then put's it back on the trailer and go's home stooping only for gas. If that was the case the boat's that are for sale that are a year old would have thousands of hour's not less than hundred. We need laws but the Manatee thing is out of control. Listen to Buffet all you want just dont buy his cd's. You never know your not to far away they might move over to where your at. And I hate getting up and off of plane every 1/2 mile when I'am down there. I too want some of the jumbo when you make it. |
Didn't realize how bad it has gotten down there.I love to run the rivers too.Wonder how a shrimp, crab and manatee gumbo would be?LOL I was in Stuart, Florida years ago talking to some old commercial fishermen and they said they used to eat them. They also said sea turtles were good too....But I'm just kidding about eating endangered species.
|
Looks like I"ll be burning my Jimmy buffet cd's now! What a waist us powerboaters are the one's that really made him rich.

Can't we all just get along?
