The guy is reckless, plain and simple. We all know this. I called him out on it continuously. I made sure there was a factual rebuttle to his nonsense. I just feel a duty to defend the truth when it comes to people telling blatant off-the-wall inaccuracies in a public forum. For better or worse....

Having said that, it makes little difference to me. If it comes right down to it, sure, come on back. I never felt any need to report or try to get him banned, I just figured it is part of the diversity that makes this place and our country so great. I never agreed wtih him, and at times had a hard time respecting him, but it takes a bit more than a guy on a keyboard to ruin my day. However, he was here enough to have earned a few stripes and I appreciated his loyalty.

Whether he shows up or not is not my concern or decision, and frankly, not an issue with me either. As Packin-arss said, not up to us.....for the better perhaps.

I don't understand what the big deal is. He pissed off the wrong people. It's as simple as that. This isn't a free speach issue. It isn't a silent majority, silent minority, member or nonmember issue. He will be back when he plays by the owners rules.

How many of you have been asked to leave a bar, school, gym, ballgame or whatever. You piss off the owners and you are gone. You play by their rules and you come back.

IMHO, to many people are trying to find an issue here when there isn't any.

Especially when it came to religion and politics, BUT isn't the contray thinker the one that sparks the debate, helps you mold your thoughts and allows you the forum in which to express your thoughts. Well I have to admit, Cat did have his opinions. But he was the only one willing to take the time to meet me when I spent two weeks in Texas!! He tried desperately to get me a boat ride but timing was off and everyone was busy. But we did spend the day together at a lake with a bar and some scenery and had a good time. I can take or leave the politics and religion, usually leave it and reach for another beer. We had a good time that day, and I did appreciate his efforts.
I say let everyone have a second chance if they are willing to discuss and apologize if they have offended.
And yes I did have occasion to chat with him in the room and always enjoyed it.. I don't know what happened in this situation, been just too busy lately to spend the time I would like on the board. It seems a lot of the first generation members have migrated away. Maybe it's because we have lost a little bit of that family feeling?? Not sure, but I have met a lot of great people on this board and learned a lot from everyone. I just hope I have contributed worth while in the eyes of the stone throwers..

I kind of don't. The guy honestly put me to sleep...he never had an original idea; he would just read these knee jerk, lib websites and come back to OSO and report it as truth. In fact, I don't think he ever wanted to change anyone's way of thinking; I think he found alot of security in the fact most people around him were conservitve, it was a definite comfort zone for him.

I did get an email from him the other day and he said he did check the board and was touched by the support he'd gotten, especially from those who vehemently disagreed with him. I knew he would always be there to chat with me. He did answer a lot of my BOATING questions. And who really cares if he did not have a boat. He does now and is going to pick his new boat up in May. When I first joined OSO I did not have a boat.....Boatlesscowgirl.....and no one had a problem with that.
I do miss him and have talked to him thru email since he was put in time out. I am not too sure if he will be back. He was, like all of us, entitled to his own opinion and beliefs. He never forced them on anyone here. No one forced any of you to read his posts, that was your choice.
He is a good hearted, kind man. I plan on staying in contact with him even if he never comes back to OSO.
I am not asking to bring him back, that is OSO's choice and his choice to come back, but I really think it is sad how people are bashing him and he is not here to defend himself.

He was definatly a different person in the chat room and on the phone. As far as his political views he knows I thought he was a ass and he thought the same of mine. I wish he had kept what he knew to be controversial issues off thye board and maybe if he comes back he will. I would like to see him come back and keep it to boats and soon people will start to realize that he really is not that bad of a guy. Like I said in the chat room he was always there and never talked polotics period unless some one else brought it up. He talked boats and had a lot of quality questions about boats and encouraged others along with their boats. When my father was sick he always asked how he was doing and I know when Fouls father was sick he asked us if anyone knew about him. That is a guy that cares and that is what is important even if his political views are WRONG ;);)

I agree with you, Cowgirl. I don't post much here because I feel a little intimidated by the largeness of it. I enjoyed chatting with Cat in the chatroom because it was a more intimate setting. I learned a lot about boats (catamarans) and engines from him and he always made me feel welcome.

Also, I've been offended by plenty of posts here on the board, but I haven't reported any. I realize my tastes are not those of everyone else's.

Well remember this one little tidbit of information. When YOU take the TIME and EXPENSE of setting up and maintaining a top notch board like this INCLUDING garnering the sponsors to help, then YOU get to make the decisions.

Until then, you’re off base. Express your opinions all you like, just understand how short sighted they really are. Some of you people have no clue what it takes to run a site that gets this much traffic. No idea at all and that is evident by your posts. This is NOT a free speech issue. This site, like life has rules and if you break them, you face consequences.

Cat was banned, as I understand it, not due to his idiotic ramblings but due to the fact that he could not follow the rules. If you don’t like the rules set up here, and they are pretty damn lenient, start a site of your own and be king there.

While I wouldn't always agree with Catmando's views, he was entertaining! If I didn't like his post I moved on. Didn't always stick to boat topics, but he's not alone in that respect. If we ever had Nuspeed back for an evening, we would probably all appreciate Catmando! If he's up for it, give him one more chance.
