Shane 04-22-2003 10:57 AM

There is only ONE place to send it. Dennis Cavanaugh at Mercury.

Smitty 04-22-2003 11:45 AM

I use John at DAH/PROPellers in Burlington WI. His number is
262-534-4440. He used to work for Mercury and does a great job and is very reasonable. You won't be sorry. Alot of race teams use him along with many OSO members.

Rolla propellors have been reccomended to me for Bravo labbing. Don't think they are cheap, though.

Griff 04-22-2003 12:30 PM

Best and cheap don't go together. In most cases, You get what you pay for.

Von Bongo 04-22-2003 12:56 PM

Griff,

Us Pantera guys think alike, that was my first thought when I read the tag.

Have you gotten your prop yet?? Spashed yet??

JUSTONCE 04-22-2003 01:00 PM

There is only one place to send it:p
Attn: John
York Propellers

He does an awesome job for $175.00

KAAMA 04-22-2003 07:51 PM

I'm sure there are several good companies that do good prop work. York Propeller does an excellent job for the money! He doesn't advertise and doesn't need to.

liquid asset 04-22-2003 08:09 PM

Mercury Racing first, Bronson Hill second, I would not use anyone else, I've even heard horror stories about one of the companys listed on this thread!!! Cheap will not help you, it takes money to go fast remember BOAT = Break Out Another Thousand

BillR 04-22-2003 08:14 PM

I've tried a few different shops. The last one was York. The best advice I can offer you (w/o slamming the others) is send to Dennis at Mercury. You'll be glad you did.

Dennis Cavanaugh with Mercury Racing is also very good and knows his stuff, but I seemed to have better luck with John at DAH/ProPellers when it came to fine tuning for my specific application.
I would also recomend Julie and Matt at Throttleup Propellers. I have yet to personally have a prop lab finished there, but have heard many good things from other race teams.

Philip 04-22-2003 10:06 PM

Do you want best? or do you want cheap?

I wish I could find "Best And Cheap"! I have only been able to find "Best" and that is Mercury Racing Prop Lab. Dennis Cavanaugh. It is funny, I can't afford to save money! Take a $1000 prop, "Save" $100 in Lab work, and you might have piece of junk that cost $1100, I would rather have a $1200 prop that is a work of art.

Haven't gotten the prop back from Darin yet. Should be here the end of this week or the beginnig of next AT THE LATEST!!!!!!

Actually, just got the boat out of storage yesterday. Been doing a lot of stuff around the house and haven't had time to play or work on it anyway. Got the batteries charged and cables cleaned yesterday. Fired it up on the hose for a little while today and then it was time to work on it.
Started putting on the new CMI's:D Just took a little longer than I suspected with finding a good place to remount the shifter linkage and relocate all the cables so it looked and fit right. As I suspected from a large amount of steam in my exhaust last year, the Gil manifolds had some internal cracks. Nothing extreme, but enough to give the exhaust valves a nice rusty color. Gonna need a few parts to finish the plumbing on them, but should only take a few more hours. Hoping to splash it next week sometime.

INDY27 04-23-2003 05:25 AM

Chris,
I use Matt Croce @ WWW.THROTTLE-UP.COM (727-531-2255). Call them and speak to Julie, they know how to treat customers and will get the job done RIGHT!

Sweet, new exhaust, new prop work, your getting serious for this year! Can wait to meet up with you and Bobbi over memorial day! Let me know how the new stuff works when you spash it!

baja 272 04-23-2003 10:12 PM

I've also used John Janaky at DAH propellers in WI and he does excellent work. He has done work on my props for outboard and my Baja, and is very reasonable.

Zero Cavity 04-24-2003 07:49 AM

I use www.throttle-up.com
Matt and Julie do the props with the help of computers so the job is precise. They did my props last year when I won all three races I did(Texas, Bahamas and Key West)

Gordo 04-24-2003 09:51 AM

Can't beat a return like that!

I'd say Doc's experience with Throttle-Up Propellers is possibly the best referral a prop shop can get.

As a side, not long ago there was a member that was posting his experience from start to finish, with before & after numbers, while having lab work done by Houston propellers.
How did that go? did I miss the final outcome?

marinepro21 04-24-2003 10:25 AM

If your in the Nashville TN area, Performance Propellers in Old Hickory TN does a good job at a resonable price!

Hey Gordo,
That was me. I have received the prop back from Darin with the satin finish on it. I'm going to try to run the boat this afternoon or this weekend and will post the numbers after. I can't wait!!!
