upolstery problem PLEASE HELP

I brought my rear deck lid down to the local upholstery guy, he said he would do a perfect job, as good as factory, and I wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I got it back and it looked like hammered S#%t. Worse is, he cut up the old skins to make the patterns and threw them away. I called Fountain, they said they no longer have the patterns for a 1992 27 fever. Does anyone know of someone that can help me out? I have the boards and the foam.

If it was me I would take it back to him. If not satsified, small claims court.

JimV 04-22-2003 05:46 PM

There is no way he is capable of making it right and he is a small one man shop, collecting would be a problem. thanks

Is his name Jim Hettinger and does he live in Honeoye, NY?
I didn't think so, but the one man upholstery shop, I've run across, operates the same way.
BEWARE of the HONEOYE UPHOLSTERER named HETTINGER!

Thanks guys I will give them a call

wwwTOPDJcom 04-23-2003 08:08 AM

that sucks, we have a few here and one is a big operation
that does nice work, and you get what you pay for
not cheap but correct in everyway

Ran-Dom 32 04-23-2003 08:08 AM

Try giving Michael McLeod a call - I'm sure he can make it better than new. (313) 942-1166

Man, there is a GIANT difference in upholsterers. Even in a group of good ones, there are guys who are better at specific things.

We've got three guys we use around here:
One for motorcycle seats and leather goods.
One for large parts (boat decklids, etc).
One for furniture.

They are all great, but they have their specialties.

ALWAYS go see an "example" of their work that is VERY similar to what you are needing.

Jim, I used Carry All products on 31 in Holland behind the Castex/Tenent plant The number there is 616-393-9413. Rob did a great job and when they did make a mistake they fixed it first and then told me. Very good price also. I guess Crazyhourse has a good person also. Stay away from auto top.

Jim,

There is a company in Holland Michigan called
( Auto top ).

They do all of Sabers interiors, and they used to do
Power Quest interiors until Power Quest started doing
there own in house.

thanks guys

Auto Top is the most expensive game in town Jim. They may do decent work, but it's big $$. I'd give Crazyhorse a call and ask him about the lady that does his work. I've seen everything she's done for Dave and it all looks like new or better!!!

Dyno's boat turned out pretty good also, even though I've never seen it clean!! Sorry Don, had to do it. :D By the way, how do you get a big greasy footprint on the BACK of you bolster??

I can also tell you some places to stay away from that do crummy work, but I don't think you could find them if you tried, so I won't bother. :)

Mike people that live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

Well, my boat may be fast, but it is also one of the dirtyest ones around right now. It definately needs some MAJOR CLEANING and upholstry. Hopefully, I will be able to concentrate more on the cosmetics this year :) vs. all the mechanical, structural and electrical stuff that I have had to concentrate on in the past. :(
