This is not a joke. That is BAD THREAD. DO NOT OPEN IT. It is a just a dumb pic of a kids character in a plastic catamaran boat with Steve and OSO's name on it.

SummerObsession 04-22-2003 10:55 PM

Why does he not delete it?

rjcardinal 04-22-2003 10:58 PM

He needs to. Someone who knows him should call him.

Ron

glassdave 04-22-2003 11:08 PM

just called him . . its being deleted

glassdave 04-22-2003 11:11 PM

thats weird. i did a reboot on my spare hard drive and its back to workin fine. that didnt work with my primary hard drive.

packinair 04-22-2003 11:21 PM

ok...I just drug my happy ass out of bed and deleted it. I have no idea what virus could be attached.?.? I ran a scan on it at work and nothing came up. I had found the pics on another site and a professional graphic artist who does this sort of thing put the OSO logo's on it. So I am sorry if the thread caused any problems, it worked fine from my house but seems to have messed up my computer at work... very very odd..if anyone has any info on what virus (if any) was attached please let me know as my scan will not pick up anything on either computer.. thanks Scott

Donzi38ZX 04-22-2003 11:26 PM

I am unaware of any virus that can be transferred via a picture. In fact symantec lists that very idea as a hoax on their website. I had no problems with the thread on either of my computers.

CAP071 04-23-2003 05:57 AM

I was told that there can be NO virus transfer from viewing that pic or thread? What make syou say you had a virus from looking at a thread? If that was the case this whole board would be a mess of virus's

US1 Fountain 04-23-2003 07:01 AM

Ok then, why was it that after many people went to that particular post and tried to view the attached picture, then had all the same problems? Slow to never loading pictures, avtars, banners, web pages.............and so on. All immediately after looking at this one topic?? Call it a virus or not, something was there. Plain and simple. Topic was deleted, things are working fine now.
Nuff said.

Easy Solution

Had the same problem - weird. Any website I went to I could not view images. Just rebooted the computer - problem solved.

florida gator 04-23-2003 08:06 AM

I had no problem all day. After seeing many other complaints I followed some bright advice and looked at that thread. After that I could not get pics even on other sites.

LapseofReason 04-23-2003 08:12 AM

I was the first to open it and my chitty computer is still as chitty as it was before.

BLee 04-23-2003 08:25 AM

I had no problems

Ryan Beckley 04-23-2003 08:28 AM

I wasn't able to open any pics on any sites on either of my computers after viewing this thread.?????

ChrisK 04-23-2003 09:51 AM

I had the EXACT same thing happen.... I did not have to reboot the computer though. I just closed the web browser and opened it back up again. Wroked fin after that.

Figured it out last night. Something in that thread corrupts a part of IE 6. After that thread corrupted your browser untill you reboot any page with graphics on it would fail to load completely. Myself and several other people last night confirmed that it was that thread that caused the problem. Probably a glitch in part of IE 6 that was brought to light.

Heres the thread where we figured it out lastnight. http://offshoreonly.com/forums/showt...threadid=48357

Without having seen the results it is hard to speculate but my best guess would be the post had a scripting error that affected your browser settings causing the slow/no response. Rebooting cleared the setting. The script error may have been a glitch in the forum resizing software or any one of a million other possibilities. If you use IE6 make certain you stay current with Microsoft's updates (Tools menu:Windows Update). I use IE6 and had no problems related to the thread and imagine it is because my computers are all up to date.

Folks: Accusing someone of spreading a virus is the on-line equivalent of saying he has the claps. I would be EXTREMELY careful doing either.

I have seen the same phenomenon as reported above. After viewing the thread, some pictures refused to show in the browser, then all pictures (banners, avatars, everything) except Packinair's refused to show.

What's more, when visiting other sites, no pictures showed either.

I mucked around with some settings, checked my firewall, and everything was fine.

I have no idea what caused it.

I doubt it was a virus. My virus definitions are continuously updated. While there's always a possibility for a new, unknown virus, it would be known and documentedthe morning after ...

I doubt it is a system update problem. My system is continuously updated via Microsoft's on-line Windows Update, and IE6 has the very latest patches.

Also, the phenomenon is somewhat documented at http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;283807

FYI, it IS possible to catch a virus by browsing. You are pretty safe it you disable all Java, ActiveX, mobile code, MIME etc content. But if you do so, most sites won't work ....
