Using the padlock comparison: Will you leave the door unlocked, just because someone can bust a padlock with a bolt cutter?

Yes it can, but encryption adds overhead and therefore slows your traffic.

Any info passed to a company should be through a virtual private network which is much more difficult to break and in fact is relied upon by millions of companies. If they want the info there are far easier ways to retrieve it.
Donzi38zx, This is not true. Google "wep +dictionary +attack" and see what you find. This attack can be done in as little as a 1.5 hours and with only 1 encrypted packet.

The dictionary attack will generate 45,000 guesses/second against 128-bit generated keys on a PIII 500.

Nope, I'd make sure it was locked as tight as possible. Any security will slow a cracker down and hopefully not make the intrusion worth the effort.

For any home network I would recommend these 3 things.

Non Broadcast SSID

WEP

Mac Filtering

These 3 things will keep most intruders out. I would also recommend that any computers on the network run a firewall.
