bumpers or fenders

Someone else sugested it... Ill post it... What do you call them?

Philip 04-24-2003 12:53 PM

Fenders

Bumpers are on a car, Fenders are on a Boat!! I think they are used to "Fend off the dock" not "Bump off the Dock"

What do you use to tie your boat to the dock ???? Ropes or Lines???? I would have to say " Lines"

Philip

I think I have way too much Idle time on my hands today,

BTW T2x has a very amusing little story about
"Hey Thro me the Rope"

Please AX him to Splaine:D :D

Fenders, unless you hang unrully children over the side, then they are bumpers.

seanclong 04-24-2003 01:56 PM

I call 'em fenders and lines but I don't hold it against anyone who calls 'em sumpin' else... :D

It's all good as long as the boat gets tied up properly!!!! :p

No, my wife is used to fend off the dock, the fenders are there in case she screws up :D

HyperBaja 04-24-2003 02:17 PM

Bumpers sound to weekend warrior-ish.

mopower 04-24-2003 02:39 PM

T2x 04-24-2003 04:49 PM

C.A.D.'s .....Contact Avoidance Devices

In the past they were solid foam....but now use air entrapment technology...... at a substantial increase in price. However C.C.A.E.'s (Certified Contact Avoidance Experts) and advertising agencies have convinced the marketplace that the "new" technology actually adds three to five MPH to most hulls.

If the boat is underway and the "FENDERS" are still hanging over the side they are referred to as tampons.

HOTROD2 04-24-2003 05:20 PM

They are called rubber thingies, if they are over the side they are bouncie rubber thingies, (once called this by a relitive on board for the !st time)...

Cars AND trailers have fenders too.

Years ago I called my local West Marine and ordered a trailer fender. I went in days after it was supposed to arrive to pick it up, and the lady went to the back and was back there for a long time. She finally came out and said it didn't come in. I was furious and said WHAT! I ordered it a week ago and it to held for me with my name in this store. She said I'm sorry sir, but I didn't see a fender with your name on it, can you show me in the catalog which one you ordered? When I got to the trailer section, she said ohh, a trailer fender.....She said I moved a trailer fender off the shelf looking for your fender.......

From then on, I called them bumpers.:D
