need an engine

Unearthed my boat after 4 years of storage, well I'll start from the beginning. I only let my sister borrow my boat twice, the second time she did she blew the engine. Because we always had lots of toys I parked it, drained the block and have not used it since. Since my life changed in November I got my boat back out and the engine was diagnosed the other day. I threw a rod. Need a rebuilt 350 merc. The boat is an 87. Any leads would be appreciated if I cannot find one here in upstate NY. May is right around the corner, if you know of anything hook me up!! Thanks in advance - Becky

This Sister?

Becca 04-25-2003 04:50 PM

Roger, that's not really her, I don't know where Danny found that picture. I'm sure he thought he was being funny. ;)

Becca, I really thought that was your sister. I can`t help but notice some ''resemblance'' though.:D

becca what kind of boat do you have?

what kidn of 350 are you looking for? carb? efi?

Becca 04-25-2003 05:12 PM

carb and it's just a 20' bowrider. No thru hull this summer although I was thinking about doing it when the engine was swapped. What do you think? Well, going away for the weekend gotta to start moving my antique outboard collection up into storage.

Becky, I have a used complete take out. Belongs to a customer, but it is an 85 or so, 400 hours, recent new exhaust, was running fine when we pulled it a year ago but I can start it up on the skid and make sure. I will have to ask but I think $1400 will take it.

Becca 04-26-2003 02:57 PM

Where was it used? Probably not freshwater? Just curious, exploring all avenues now.

Why dont you rebuild the one you have or was the damage to exstensive?

Sean

As you guessed, not freshwater. Boat was trailered, and I think they were pretty good about flushing. They really don't look too bad.

1800runsnew does not not seem to have a very good reputation here on OSO. Be carefull..

puder 04-26-2003 07:46 PM

convincor, really???

i though most OSO member that bought engines from them were pretty happy with them?

convincor 04-26-2003 08:02 PM

Seems the new engines have been ok but the rebuilts have had problems.

Hi Becca. Coming to west Michigan any time soon?

GO4BROKE 04-27-2003 07:07 AM

I would buy a short block or long block (depending on the condition of what you have) 4 bolt 350 from a GM dealer. If you don't know of one that can give you a good price, buy a couple of hot rod car mags and check the adds. New can usually be had around $1200
