Here is what I did. Got in the boat with a full set of tools. Did a trial run on any fix I may need to do and listed each tool used. Threw in a few extras just for grins. Carry a spare coil, ignition amp, ignition module, impeller, fuel pump and a spark plug or two. Who was it some years back, ****, I believe that carried a cell phone and Astro Glide?

Buck, I bought the booster pack after I didn't start one day and the boat next to me handed me his. When I left the marina that afternoon I stopped by West marine and bought one and like you, I now primarily use it for other people.
The few tools I do have on board keep rusting on me. After my motor kept taking in water last year, I started keeping a spark plug socket, set of plugs and a spray lubricant meant for drying out moist wires and such. I actually pulled the plugs while rafting one day, turned over the motor & pumped the water out, sprayed the lubricant in all plug holes, had a few more beers, installed new plugs and finished out the day. That's probably my biggest mechanical accomplishment so far. Thank god for Sea Tow. |
I carry a Sears 144 pc set, that has both standard and metric, plus a few other goodies. I also keep a spare raw water pump impeller, a couple of quarts of oil, a quart of drive oil, some electrical stuff and my jump pack. I too, carry a bottle opener (for the Corona), Even a cork screw.

Gator,
I carry enough tools to change a sea water pump, props and plugs. Anything else happens...crawl back on one motor ;) . But no bottle opener...the boss drinks from cans.:D |
Jump Pack
It seemed for a while that I was a magnet, attracting drunken rednecks with a 1973 trihulls with dead batteries. Hey dude, can you give us a jump? So I bought one of those jumppacks so that I wouldn't have to screw up my electrical system trying to get their POS started. Guess what, not one person has even asked me for a jump since I bought it!!!! Maybe they are good luck:D :D I also carry a small stainless tool kit in a waterproof case...and a bottle opener:D

No bottle opener. But, I do have a power inverter and blender.
I'm just a good ol boy. The beer I carry has twist caps. None of that fancy crap. Besides, I usually drink liquor. The beer is for those who cann't hang. If they need fancy beer they can bring it. Along with the opener. |
a small plastic tool box of rusty sockets and wrenches. Ohhh yea, Visa.:D
