Silicone Water pump impellers, Any Info?

I was told about some new Silicone water pump impellers. If you lose water flow (run aground) they don't break apart and ruin the housing like the factory merc impellers do. They are supposed to last 10 times longer then stock. Anyone know where to get them or hear anything about them? Thank you

Boatfix.com has them for about $23-$24.
If you do a search under impellers in this forume you will find more info.
There's some shaft adapter you need to get with it.
They say they will run dry for 15 minutes also.
On Boatfix.com site, do a search for "Globe Rubber Products"

They are being used a lot when boats
are stored because stock impellers dry
up and the fins stick and the center
spins and sends chuncks of rubber into
your cooling system.

I ran one against a stock impeller and it lasted 2 years before I removed it due to wear. The stock impeller is on year 3. This boat stays in the water however. They may be better if you run them dry, I didnt.

You are talking about the (Blue Globe impellers)

GLOBE RESILIENT BLUE IMPELLERS

RUN DRY FOR 15 MINUTES, DEMAND THE BLUE ONE!

TRIPLE service life at competitive prices, means less down time and less cost. That's what it's all about.

The only impeller in the world guaranteed to RUN DRY FOR 15 MINUTES!

GLOBE impellers are made of elastomer compounds, developed for optimum performance and self lubricating for run dry protection.

All GLOBE impellers are made from elastomers giving them the combined characteristics and multiple properties of rubber, nitrile, viton and neoprene. For diesel fuel transfer, request the Red Globe Impeller.

Additionally, GLOBE impellers have greater resistance to sand and dirt abrasion.

GLOBE manufactures most popular replacement impellers: JABSCO, JOHNSON PUMPS, CATERPILLAR, CRUSADER, CUMMINS DIESEL, DETROIT DIESEL, KOHLER, MERCRUISER, MERLIN, NORTHERN LIGHTS, OBERDORFER, UNIVERSAL, VOLVO, WESTERBEKE, YANMAR and others.

GLOBE impellers are specified by the U.S. Coast Guard and the navies of the world.

Distribution from Boston to Bora Bora.

I can tell you most people still replace them every 2 years anyway

The last few times I've changed my impellers it wasn't the impeller that was bad, it was those damn plastic housings. They wear and loose their ability to pump.

Since you can't buy the housing by itself, why buy the blue impellers? If someone would come up with a good housing with a silicone impeller I think they'd have a great product.
