If that's the case I will hold out also. It's about time. It would better if they did it next year!

I haven't heard any news at all about Duramax/Allison installs coming in the Suburbans.
It will require a complete change to the frame structure, something that GM has been very reluctant to do since they use the same basic frame for the Tahoe and now the H2 as well. The frames are made locally here, and all the vehicles are assembled just up the road in Janesville. I'll let you know as soon as I hear something; they stand a good chance of selling them since the Excursion phase-out will take effect in mid 04. |
Avalanche?
I thought I've also seen some posts/replies about the Avalanche having this combo soon? I think Sydwayz has posted some info. about this.

From all the info I've heard hear @ GM there will not be a Duramax
in a suburban! Reason- The Duramax does not make enough heat to run rear aux heater! Pretty lame reason. FYI I work in Advanced vehicle development GM |
The reason behind the frame problem is the Duramax itself will fit in a 'Suburban' frame. It has been done by a few custom shops and modified M32 trannys. The Duramax requires the ZF 6-Speed Manual tranny or the Allison 5-Speed Auto tranny. Neither of these trannys will fit between the stock frame rails of the basic light GM chassis, used by H2, Tahoe, Yukon, Yukon XL, Denali, Sierra Denali, Escalade, Escalade EXT/ESV, Suburban 1500/2500, Avalanche WBH/1500/2500, 1500 Silverado, 1500HD Silverado, 1500 Sierra, 1500 Sierra, 2500 Silverado, and 2500 Sierra. The only frame they will fit into is the larger 2500HD chassis or 3500.
