Default Towing, Canvas ON or OFF

Bought a trailer in the fall so now I'm towing the boat. Just wondering what you guys/girls do with your canvas. Do you leave it on or take it off when you tow your boat.

With my last boat I did some of both but I did notice that it was starting to take a toll on both the canvas and the boat.

Lets here your pros and cons.

C...if you tow with the cover it has to be a snug fit with lots of snaps...otherwise the cover moving around in the wind will constantly wear and chaffe your fiberglass and will leave a dull spot!!!! Really bad if it is on a colored part of your boat!!!! If the weather is half decent, we always tow with the cover off to avoid the chance of any damage.

I often tow with cockpit cover on in inclement weather. I will cover the front and sides with masking tape to keep wind from ripping it off, and I usually tie a rope across the top just across the bolsters, and down to the trailer, just to keep it on the boat incase the wind rips the front of it off the snaps. God forbid it launch off and land on someone's windsheild.

I have a generic full boat cover I bought from West Marine that I can tow with as well, but normally don't.

My cover is huge. It starts at the bow and snaps back all the way to the center console and snaps to it. There is a zipper that connects the second part of the cover that continues to the stern of the boat. There are two poles in the front and another one in the back to help support the weight. I never counted how many snaps there are but there are a lot of them.

One that big I would not tow with it on. I never tow with one no matter what the weather is, it's a boat it can get wet. A cover cost a lot to blow off or just the stress of the wind.
