Does fogging oil foul plugs?
Went to fire both motors today. 1 flooded and wouldn't start, the other runs great but if I hold it above 2000 rpm it sputters. When I do a couple of quick revs up to 3000 rpm it sounds fine, but after that if I try to hold it above 2000 rpm again it still sputters.
Could it be a foul/not firing plug? Or bad gas? Tanks are almost full but I don't remember putting in stabilizer. Then I go back to the other motor, and wouldn't ya know it....the battery dies!! Boy, I was so excited to just have them fire right up. Guess it is back to reality and scrambling to get it ready for memorial day! |
Fuel is always the easy suspect.
But it really sounds like ignition. Spark plug wires or coil? |
YES...

i've always heard yank the plugs and bump the starter to spit out all the fogging oil.
funny thing is i had the same problem on my first boat. back when i knew realitively nothing about boats. mixed in some octane booster and changed the fuel/water seperator [fuel filter], new plugs and problem solved. if it's your first run of the season i say change the fuel filter. and after burning that fogging oil, prolly the plugs as well |
I would replace the cap and rotor. Also check for any corrosion in the distributor.
