Hey outboard guys

I got a 16 foot skiff from my dad when he passed away, and no info on the boat but the title. It has a 30 HP Merc. on it. At 6000 RPM it is running 30 MPH on GPS. It want's to cruise at 5000 RPM @ 25 MPH and seems to get to 6000 fast when you wack it.I don't know if it has a rev limiter it sure doesn't sound like it. but it feels like it could use more prop. Any info would be handy.

Assuming it's a late model and 2 stroke, 6000 sounds a little fast. Most top out at 5200 to 5800. I can find out if you can tell me year of engine.

You definitely need more pitch to that prop. 6000 sounds way too high. 5500 would have been my shoot from the hip guess as to a max RPM for that motor.

Good luck

The motor is around a 94-96 I would guess because the boat is a 95 my dad got new. Yes it's a two stroke. It seems like it is running about 1000 rpm to high at the boat's nice cruise of 25 mph, that is where the boat feels best. the motor sounds good at about 4-4500 but lugging at that speed.

I agree with 1000 rpm too high. around 5K to 5.5K tops should get you better performance.
