What is the Best way to wash a Cockpit cover??

My cockpit cover is looking kind of dirty....and the boat in the rack on top of me leaked some oil down on my boat. So now i have an oil stain too. i brought the cover home and i'm wondering what the best way to wash it is. I think i took it to a self serve car wash before and pressure washed it, but i was wondering if i could just throw it in the washer at home??

How do you guys wash yours??

Your wife will kill you when the washer wipes out, plus you will have to buy her a new one. Find a commercial laundermat, feed in a bunch of quarters then run fast before the owner sees what you did:)

I mix up hot water and simple green strong solution with a brush for mine.

Or just use straight Mountin Dew mix! :D

Try pre treating the oil spot with Lestoil and then take it to the launderamat. Use one of the big front loaders, good luck.

I've done the wash machine route, before. The problem I encountered was the thread came apart around the snaps and borders. Maybe I should have used the "gentle" cycle. I had to have the entire cover restictched and new snaps installed.

I used the car wash on my old boat cover and it did a good job.

I scrubed mine with hot water n simple green than rinsed it with a pressure washer came out great I let it dry than sprayed it with water repellant .

take it to a commercial laundry for a wash, but only spin dry slighty, leave it damp and dry it on your boat for a perfect fit...

If you decide to add water repellant, remember that the stuff makes the cover shrink. The first time we couldn't even get the cover back on. The second time, I applied it with the cover in place. It proceeded to actually pull the aluminum frame off the window!
