You're From Jersey If:
You don't think of fruit when people mention "The Oranges."
You know that it's called Great Adventure, not Six Flags. A good, quick breakfast is a hard roll with butter. You've known the way to Seaside Heights since you were seven. You know that the state isn't one big oil refinery. At least three people in your family still love Bruce Springsteen and you know the town Jon Bon Jovi is from. You know what a "jug handle" is. You know that WaWa is a convenience store. You know that the state isn't all farmland. You know that there are no "beaches" in New Jersey - there's "The Shore". And you don't go "to the shore", you go "down the Shore". And when you are there, you're not "at the shore", you are "down the Shore". Even your school cafeteria made good Italian subs. And it's a Sub, not a submarine sandwich or worse yet, a hoagy, a hero, or a grinder. You know how to properly negotiate a Circle. You knew that the last sentence had to do with driving. You know that this is the only "New..." state that doesn't require "New" to identify it (like, try...Mexico, ....York, .Hampshire - doesn't work, does it?) You only go to New York City for day trips, and you call it "The City". You know that a "White Castle" is the name of BOTH a fast food chain AND a fast food sandwich. You consider putting mayo on a corned beef sandwich a sacrilege. You don't think "What exit" is very funny. You know that the first "strip shopping center" in the country was on Route 22. You know that no respectable New Jerseyan goes to Princeton - that's for out-of-staters. The Jets-Giants game has started fights at your school or local bar. You live within 20 minutes of at least three different malls. You refer to all highways and interstates by their numbers. Every year, you had a least one kid in your class named Tony or your name is Tony or Toni. You know the location of every clip shown in the Sopranos opening credits. You've gotten on the wrong highway trying to get out of the mall. You know that people from North Jersey go to Seaside Heights, and people from Central Jersey go to Belmar and people from South Jersey go to Wildwood. It can be no other way. You were not raised in New Jersey. You were raised in either North Jersey, Central Jersey or South Jersey. You don't consider Newark or Camden to actually be part of the state. You remember the stores Korvette's, Two Guys, Rickel's, Channel, Bamburger's and Orbach's. You've had a Boardwalk cheese steak and vinegar fries. You start planning for Memorial Day weekend in February. When you say you're going to Englishtown you mean you're going to the flea market, not the town. You've NEVER, NEVER pumped your own gas. And finally... You know who The Jersey Boyz are and that they are not related to The Backstreets Boys..... :D :D :D |
I'm doomed!
I agreed with everything on the list. |
O.K. how sick is this? I was born in Red Bank,my folks moved when I was 2. And yet even after 41 years in Maryland it took just one trip up to Brick for Skaterfest last year and I have about 90% covered still;) Oh well, you can take the boy out of Jersey...
|
I had a good friend in high school from Jersey. I always thought it was peculiar that we never went to anybody's house, he went "by Joe's house". He would never be there either, he was "by Joe's house".
|
WOW! I was born and raised in North Jersey and agreed with every point! Like was said earlier, you can take the boy outa Jersey....  :D :D :o :o
|
I know every one of those. :D :D :D :D
You don't consider Newark or Camden to actually be part of the state. When you say you're going to Englishtown you mean you're going to the flea market, not the town. |
Uh-huh - that's me! :D :D
|
Shark, YES to everyone. See ya at Skaterfest down the shore. Otto
|
Englishtown was ALWAYS either to race MX or to teh drag strip. I grew up racing MX so for me it was always MX.:D
|

You're from Jersey if:
Sharkey mentions your town in his "You're from Jersey if:" post: You know that people from North Jersey go to Seaside Heights, and people from Central Jersey go to Belmar and people from South Jersey go to Wildwood. It can be no other way. How about just knowing what pork roll is??? |
the problem is...when you jerseyites come to New York and try to navigate our "circles"... :)
there are two in my town an inevitably someone with Jersey plates is sitting in it...letting every single car get in... You must yield to the vehicle IN the circle when you come to New York...please pass it on...:D :D :D |

Wow brings back memories. Central Jersey here, Metuchen spent every summer at the "Shore". the Stone Pony in Asbury, the Osprey in Manasquan, the nightclubs on "35".
Englishtown was Raceway Park, wednesday night Grudge night, raced a Kawasaki Z-1R 10.8 sec street bike, that was fast back then. Itialian hot dogs, which you can't get anywhere else. Learning to shoot Pool in Steve Mizeraks Pool hall and how to loose money to innocent looking old guys that really know how to shoot pool. Going to try to make it up for the June 1 races, lived in Brick before moving to Florida and now Virginia. Maybe I'll see yous guys there. Anybody remember the Jersey Shore Beer Bike marathon? 10 miles and 14 bar stops, had to drink beer at each and get stamped then on to the next. Too many crashes from drunk riders falling off ended it after a couple years, but what a great event it was. Great party at last stop. |

Remember `Mr Steak` Mike |
Remember `Mr Steak` |
You're know you're from NJ and OLD if:!
There were more Stewart's than McDonald's. You remember "Drink A Toast"????? I'll be real happy if you do! Real diners AM Radio: Jean Shepard, Bob n' Ray, Bernard Meltzer, Rambling with Gambling, Jerry Blavett ( the geater with the heater). Wonderama, Palasades amusment park, The Diving Horse... "Killies" are what you use for bait. Frozen Custard Avon "Skin So Soft" to repel greenheads. Planes towing advertising banners in front of the beach. Caution, Roads being oiled. Any More????? Any More???????? |
I don't know ANY of that stuff.........whoda known? Ya otta get some stuff that I can answer! Like what will wash the sphagetti stains out of my boat towels? :D :D :D
|
Sean, Joisey is the home of the traffic circle...and diners.
Yes the planes still fly banners over the beach and what else will catch a Fluke but a Killie and strip of squid. American, It was nice to talk with you today. You must be old, like me, cause I listened to Jean Sheppard as a kid too. Yup, Joisey ain't so bad, we just live in the shadow of Manhattan. And Phantom, any self respecting Jersey Girl can get a spaghetti sauce stain out on the first try. Except for wife beaters, they require some stains. Just ask Too Old. |
Ahhhh!!! Jersey.......
It will always be looking at the butt of Lady Liberty...;) :D :D :D |
Sharkey we can always count on you to come up with something clever! Can relate to every one of them. Thanks. Augie.

Pork roll - now that brings back some summer memories!
Mate 229: We were almost neighbors - Fords. |
Mate 229,
Anybody remember the Jersey Shore Beer Bike marathon? 10 miles and 14 bar stops, had to drink beer at each and get stamped then on to the next. Too many crashes from drunk riders falling off ended it after a couple years, but what a great event it was. Great party at last stop. If it is, the wife and I were part of the first rally (Annual Beer and Bike Rally). The party for the survivors was at a friends house in Island Heights (I think). What a blast. Try to picture 20 or so drunks trying to ride their bikes to the next bar. It was fun. |

Down the Shore
After being out here for 8 years,,its still like going home when you go down the Shore, ,was born and raised there.
its a part of you. |
Augie,
I can't take full credit, but I did add the Jersey Boys part! ;) Oh yeah!!! The Booze Cruise. I biked from Brielle to Sea Bright and hit every bar along the shore... It was always a big event until.... |
Can ya still get a Tomatoe Pie at the Shore? About the only place they called it that. Wildwood Boardwalk where we felt continental picking up French Canadian Babes or Philly Chicks.
Jana, you were close had some friends in Fords. Gonna be up there in a couple weeks look around the old homestead (Brick, last place I lived). Hope to make the races down the shore. |
