Depth finder on steped hulls?

On a stepped hull is it coming for the depth finder not to work when on plane because it aerates the water and it cant get a Reading ?Mine works at idle but doesn't on plane .Whats your experience?

Same - fine till I get on plane, then nothing.

Mine won't work at anything over a fast idle. I have a transom mounted transducer. It might work better inside but i have coring in my bottom and the manufacturer made it sound like it wasn't a good idea to mess with it.

As long as mine works at idle, I'm OK. If I have any doubts on the depth I am not going to be on plane.

Same deal - 28' Powerquest, worked great at idle, never worked at speed.

I've tried a number of things over the last four years with little success. Transom mount at centerline, transom mount to one side, engine compartment shoot thru none work well once th ehull is on plane and the step begins to draw air in and across the hull bottom. The wetted contact is lost and the transducer function is shot. The only sweet spot for a transducer on a step hull would be forward of or against the step and before the air enters. I'm guessing the step can be completely off the water surface with higher speed and trim setting.
I've discussed this a number of times with Fountain and they have not provided anything of value.

I keep dreaming Airmar or any of the transducer manufacturers will invent a transducer that works thru air and water.

I have a 38 Powerquest with no problems, even at high speeds it reads better than my fishing boat.

Mike you are right keep it in the "Clean Water" I have a lot of equipment out there with ventilated hulls and transducers they work just fine.
