Actually this idea of putting tabs down in the middle is not new. I spoke with someone that used to crew for Al Copeland back in the 80's that described this exact scenario to me a few years back. It too was on his Vee Hull. Having the tabs low like this is giving a quicker reaction time to the hull rather than waiting for the hull to list far enough over for the outside mounted tabs to work and correct it's attitude.
It almost seems those tabs are directly inline with the drives. I would be concerned when trimming down that it may push too much water away from the props and they would blowout. Maybe the extension boxes will give them enough distance to counteract that. Hopefully this will work out well, and these guys end up with a great handling boat.
I think the only difference in the set up from what was described to me was that his tabs were mounted level and not with the degree of the bottom.
Any hardcore POPEYES FANS out there that could shed some light on that? Maybe some pics?

Sharky-- I think those (tabs) are mounted their to change the center of ballance on the water. By raising them you are adding more distance between the prop and the back edge of the running surface- This should give more bow lift. By lowering them it will lengthen the running surface and also give more stern lift. With the touch of a switch you can give your boat a hook or a rocker bottom.

And too much hook will move the water away from the props...:eek:
Hopefully the extensions keep that from happening.............;)

Those props looked kind of deep for a race set up. I don't think they will have that problem.

Will builds some great stuff. I have a 30 w/ a new 850HP whipplecharged 600ci, that runs well over 105. I am waiting for a 5 blade to get back from lab finishing, and i will dial the boat in. It handles great, and accelerates awesome.
We just rigged a 34' Phantom w/ 2/550HP 502ci, it ran over 92 at 5500, and was still pulling, we will change props, and dial in, should be 95+, handles awesome.
Will's stuff looks wild, but runs great.

The rocker plates have a trim limit to prevent water loss. On those, a inch makes a huge difference.
